Hey guys,

Do you think it is more important to take Calc or Orgo II before the PCAT? I will not be able to have time to take both before the exam, so was hoping someone could lead me in the right direction for which one will be needed more. Thank you!

That's hard to say. When I first read this I said calc because if you had a good Orgo teacher there are a lot of things you can infer from the basics of what you learned. Meaning if you came across a question you didn't know you could use your organic one basic skills to make educated guesses. However I found the math section near impossible, I didn't bomb it but I didn't do great. Basically guessed on everything in that part . So I guess it depends what section you may be stronger in. If you think you're stronger in chem take calc

I would take orgo 2 in a sense that it is hell and you want it out of the way asap. But if you are only concerned about being properly prepared for exam take the calc instead. A good foundation in orgo 1 should be enough for the most part to help you with material on the pcat. Go over some basic SN1, E1, SN2 and E2 reaction rules/theroy that is really the bulk of orgo 2 that is covered on the pcat.

Try to take both. Calc is easier to learn on your own. If you have to choose one I would say orgo 2 and learn your basic calc using pcat study materials and dummys books. Calculus for dummys is pretty great

hey @dx9xd... u should def take calculus I and organic I to do well in the PCAT. Organic II doesn't have to do anything with the PCAT. I just took my PCAT this past OCt. And got accepted. Hope this help!

If you have a strong general chemistry background and did very well in organic I then take calc I instead. There are some concepts/reactions from organic II that are on the exam, but you can easily learn them through khan academy or any organic chemistry book.
For the math part on the PCAT, there definitely was a lot of calc I questions so if you don't know any concepts from calculus, your math score might not be that great.
