I noticed Stony Brook and BU need Calculus, I might apply to those schools. The problem I have is that I took Calc a long time ago and received a D. Does that mean I need to retake Calc? I noticed on both the Stony brook and the Bu website that there is no minimum grade requirement am I right or do I need to retake?

I think it's just an unspoken rule that you need at least a C in all your pre-reqs. But, I would shoot for As in all your pre-reqs.

Most schools generally require a C or above for prereqs, but you might want to give those two schools a call if you're unsure and its not listed anywhere. Don't take the chance.

thank you med. I figured C was the unspoken minimum, but these two schools did not list that fact on their site, they just have a minimum overall GPA. I will call them.

MAJOR BUMP!

Just wanted to let you guys know, I called BU and Stony Brook. BU does NOT have a minimum on the prereq courses, but your science GPA must be above 3.3 in order to be considered.

Meanwhile Stony said you need at least a B in each prereq course (not quite sure how that works, but thats what I was told)

Who told you that?

Their website and ADEA guide says nothing about 3.3+ sGPA to be considered.
In ADEA Portal under Status, it only says 3.3+ cGPA and sGPA to be competitive but not required... Reliable source?

I might have to call myself to see what they say.

I called their Admissions office and was notified that, you can call and ask yourself to see what response you will get. I was concerned because my Calc grade was very low, all my other grades are in line with their expectations.

The portal seems to confirm the same thing I said, so i'm not sure as to why you're confused.

Well, nothing I can do now anyway. Already applied and paid all the fees, guess we'll just wait and see.

I got a C+ in Calc 😱
Calculus just isn't my thing.

With that said, on portal it says

"Generally, interviewed candidates have an overall cumulative GPA both total and science of a 3.3 or above and their DAT academic average and total science is at 20 or above. This is a general guide; many other factors come into our consideration of a candidate: "

What you said made it seem like anything below 3.3 is automatically thrown out, like the 16 DAT score cutoff for many schools.
From what I understand, it just seems like 3.3 is a competitive average, but anything below that is fine as long as it is compensated by something, maybe DAT or extracurricular which they have listed I just cut out.

Sorry, I don't mean to sound rude. I was in a rush to get to class so I just wrote that real quick before I forget haha.

right so what im saying is that you're application is fine. as long as your other grades get you above a 3.3, then its ok to have that C+ in calc. BU has no individual grade cut off (meaning you dont need a C or above in any class, you just need a total of a 3.3 sGPA to be seriously considered.)
