California license

Hey guys. Trying to figure out what hoops I may need to jump through for a California license.

I'm already board certified - practicing in NY and I hold and OH license too.

I went to Ross, didn't do all those "green book" rotations and I never bothered with The California L6 forms?

Does any of that matter since I'm boarded? I'd like to go to California in the next 4 years, so nothing urgent.

Thanks for anyones help. I didn't try to contact the board yet, seemed like a bit of a complicated question that they wouldn't be able to say yes or no 100%.

I'm pretty sure you will need those L6 forms, I don't see what being boarded has anything to do with it. IMG's have different requirements. And you should contact the CA med board or at least visit their site. They are asked this question a thousand times bc IMG's have a separate application for licensing. I'm sure their site also has detailed answers to questions like these.

Well, in my case, my test score was 10 years and 6 months old when I decided to go back to additional training. The didn't "extend" it for me despite me having been licensed and practicing in another state. And that was me asking for PTAL, not even a full license.

The options they gave me:
1. Retake USMLE
2. Withdraw the application.

The reason was "10 years and 6 months" was "over 10 years".

They didn't and wouldn't say. Perhaps, which "analyst" you get to work your case.

Geez. Seems like a pain in the butt. Sorry for the OPs problems. It's already had being international med grad. But I know Florida California and Texas are the trifeca in terms of medical license to get when finishing training especially for those with IMG certificate.

Is the OP doing MOC? Can't they tell the board they are in middle of MOC which should represent constant "education/training". I would call them say MOC is same as maintaining certification

Even before MOCA I was told even lcme usa med school graduates more than 10 years out would have difficulty getting Cali license without flying in an taking some BS exam. I know Cali changed those rules for us grads a few years ago so they didn't need to do that any more. Texas made u fly in to take the juris prudence exam but now u can do it at any state testing center.

I've has my Cali license right when I finished residency. Also Florida. I have Practiced in both states. Those are big states to always maintain. Just in case u may want to move to those states in the future. Yes can be costly but gotta pay to play in the game.

I got my Florida and Cali license within 8 weeks. But all my licenses have been super speedy.

Apparently keeping ourselves updated in our own specialty is less important than refreshing ourselves on microbiology, pathology, etc (the knowledge we won't ever use in our professional lives, at least not anywhere near the degree we need to know to take tests) to retake step 1, as far as Cali Board is concerned. Having to re-study what type of Petri dishes are used for what bugs wastes our time studying how to manage airways, if you ask me. But what do I know?

Please recommend a licensing service for CA; a company that is reputable, successful, dealt with complicated residency issues, etc
