Hi, Iam a Foreign pharmacy grad and I live in California. I did my 1500 intern hours in a community pharmacy setting and got the eligibility letter for NAPLEX and CPJE from CA board before. Due to some personal reason I didn't give the test and now I submitted Retake application for eligibility for Naplex. Board sent me deficiency letter saying that I need to submit Institutional hours now. I don't know why the board accepted my hours before and now asking me about Institutional hours.Anyone knows about this?

Please guide me in this matter.

CCR section 1728. Requirements for Examination.

(a) Prior to receiving authorization from the board to take the pharmacist licensure examinations required by section 4200 of the Business and Professions Code, applicants shall submit to the board the following:
(1) Proof of 1500 hours of pharmacy practice experience that meets the following requirements:
(A) A minimum of 900 hours of pharmacy practice experience obtained in a pharmacy.
(B) A maximum of 600 hours of pharmacy practice experience may be granted at the discretion of the board for other experience substantially related to the practice of pharmacy.
(C) Experience in both community pharmacy and institutional pharmacy practice settings.

I would contact the BoP to clarify the bolded part here. It does not specify the hour requirement.

I dont know how the board authorized u the eligibility first time. However, what I know is that some experience in an institutional pharmacy is must. Myself being a foreign graduate had to face the same problem. On the other hand, native pharm. students have the opportunity of hosp rotations. We, foreign gradutes have to struggle for it. I hope you get a solution for your problem. Let us know how u handle ur problem. Would like 2 help if I could.

Any news on how did you resolve your problem? Im a foreign pharmacy graduate like you. Hoping you can shed some light regarding this. thank you

Call hospital pharmacies near you and tell them that you need to do few hours of internship as a requirement for you to get an approval to take licensure exams from the board and you have already done 1500 hrs of community pharmacy internship hours. No need to do few hundred hours of internship, rather less than 10 hours of internship is also fine. Yes, because the board hasn’t mentioned the number of hours anywhere. They just need a letter saying that you have done institutional pharmacy internship hours. Good luck!

Hi,
Have you done this before? Please share your experience if you have!! I’m a foreign grad pharmacist and I’m currently licensed in another state but have 0 US institutional hours, and I’m working full time as a pharmacist in the community so I’m not going to have time to get too much experience. Do you know if one day would be sufficient? I don’t even know how I’m going to get experience as a licensed pharmacist without working there, can I just shadow? California board is a nightmare to contact and I just can’t seem to reach them at all.....

Hi i am a foreign pharmacist from the UK and am looking to convert this to a California Licence. As far as I can tell, I need to complete the FPGEC application which will give me permission to sit the FPGEE exam and the toefl exam. passing these should give me an intern license which i can then use to obtain my intern hours. once i have completed these i should be able to sit the naplex exam. does this seem correct in your experience?
