Hi! I've been wait listed at 3 schools and accepted at 1 but I was wondering if it helps your chances at all if you call or email to inquire about your status at schools. Does this showing of interest or intent help your case at all, or is it better just to let it play out? Thanks for any help or advice!

I was wait listed at 3 schools last year and didn't call any of them. I didn't get accepted to any. So, from my experience, it wouldn't hurt to call or stand out somehow.

Pursue your top choice. Maybe email them and see what you have to do.

I'm assuming you were accepted at a school low on your list?

Would the waitlist need to be renamed:

1. Call-if-you-don't-get-accepted-to-inquire-about-your-status list or
2. E-mail-if-you-don't-get-accepted-to-inquire-about-your-status list?

Except a school specifically told me a nice letter or phone call during the spring would be a good idea to show that you're still interested. Bye doc.

You don't want to look like you're trying too hard.

I remember Meija saying that NYU loves people to call and express their interest if on a waitlist. So, not a bad option there.

I would think that it could only help unless the school has specifically told you not to call them.

Yes I got into a school lower on my list but don't get me wrong I'm extremely extremely grateful that I got into a school....couldn't be happier to be going somewhere, but obviously some options would be nice. I would assume schools enjoy hearing from people on their wait list because it does show that you are still interested in their school. You can also express intent in this sense which schools I'm sure like to see. They don't want to accept students that are just going to go somewhere else. Sounds like it may be a good thing to contact schools in some form. Thanks for the replies everyone!

So while applying to dental schools, I got one interview and was not accepted on Dec. 1st. I was also applying to a lot of jobs and I got accepted to a research position at a prestigious university with a famous professor. Is it appropriate to ask the school about my status through e-mail or phone call?
