call school about interview date if in area?

Hi guys,
i heard it's a good idea that if you get an interview in a state, to call the other schools you've applied to around there and let them know so you can do it all at once. is this generally good practice?
i'm thinking specifically of Cornell, Columbia, and NYU (i'm interviewing at Mount Sinai) so let me know if you've heard specific things about these three. thanks.

It's worth a shot, but keep in mind that with the sheer volume of applications they have it might be very difficult for them to accommodate you.

A guy I talked to at an interview said you should do that. He called a place and within thirty minutes they called him back with an interview.

cornell specifically tells you to let them know if you're in the area. every school i've talked to has been very nice about it.

I called Boston Univ. to ask them the same thing, I got a rejection an hour and a half later ! Don't know if its a coincidence

I emailed Boston about that and they gave me a we'll get to your application when we get to it type reply, I don't think I'm going to call now....

My friend interviewed at BU and they told him that they had a tendency to reject candidates with high stats pre-interview if they felt they were unlikely to attend BU... not sure if this is relevant in your case. Someone told him that you needed to express an interest in the area or write a letter of interest in order to get an interview, also not sure if this is true or not.

yeah, i know cornell specifically tells you to call if you'll be in NY.

I also called Thomas Jefferson cause i'm going to temple and drexel and the lady kinda blew me off. This was about a week ago and i still haven't heard anything from Jeff.

In case you hadn;t contacted them yet, Mount Sinai prefers that you send them an email telling them you will be in the area and NYU will not be interviewing until Oct so if your going to be in the area before then, well, it won't help to contact them.

If you'll be in the area, but not for interview purposes, is it worth it to let schools know? I'll be in NYC this October with friends, so I was just wondering if perhaps it might be worth letting them know. I already notified AECOM because it directly mentioned it in an email, but I wasn't sure about NYU, MSSM, and SUNY Downstate. I doubt I'll get an interview at any of them anyway, but I figure it might be worth a shot.

thanks. do you think i should email aecom...if so should i just say i will be there the dates.

i am worried about emailing them because my mcat is def under aecom's average but my gpa is higher...so i dont know what i should say in the email so it doesnt sound bad.

I sent an email and my GPA is lower than their median, and my MCAT is a point under as well. I just figured it was worth a shot, you know? Just mention that you will be in town for another interview, give the dates, and maybe mention that you were informed in an email to tell them if you'd be in town.

No, schools know that 99.9% of applicants apply to multiple schools and many get multiple interviews. They also know it's expensive to travel, especially across the entire country.

I got an interview with Harvard last year and (after freaking out) called Boston and Tufts....immediate rejection from Tufts and immediate interview at Boston. It works if you're polite about it!

Well if you're not currently living in the northeast, the "area" could include the Boston schools as well. Boston and New Haven are only a few hours apart. But I wouldn't stress about Yale yet, they're notoriously slow and they don't have rolling admissions.
