I have a Q that should be answered on scutwork but scutwork is a major disappointment.

What is call like on average? For example, how many programs have night call?

What is call like on average? For example, how many programs have night call?

All programs have night call with the first-call being able to take home call. A handful of programs had in house night call, but this is being changed due to the 80 hour - work week rule set forth by the ACGME.

Here at Iowa, call is about 5X/month for the first years, 2X/month for the second years, and the seniors serve as backup on a Q4Day schedule.

Programs that have 4 residents that share the call schedule can still have in-house call and meet the ACGME requirements. (40 hour week + less than 40 hours of call= <80 hours). If a residency has 3 residents per year and the first 2 years take call, they can easily meet the ACGME requirements.

Thanks Visioncam but I could do the math. I was wondering what actually happens. I see a lot of q3 or q5 but what does that actually mean for most or certain ophtho programs?

Any more examples like Andrew's?
