Hello everyone, I was wondering about my chances for ED admissions to a particular school and I would like to have a solid idea before I put all of my eggs in one basket, so to speak. Because I can't decide between ED and applying regularly to more schools.

Would it be "okay" (ie not seen as totally out of place/barbaric/weird/etc) to call the admissions office and ask about my chances or should I ask to make an appointment. And with who if this is the preferred route? Or should I not do this at all? This school doesn't use email and only has phone numbers for questions and concerns. They are a large school but I've done so much research online and can't find anything as to what they expect. Thanks for your feedback 🙂

Most schools have admissions counselors. How you go about contacting them or making appointments with them varies from school to school. Just be courteous and respectful when contacting them and you should be fine.

I did just that when I was applying since mt grades looked so crappy. Some schools told me flat out I wouldn't have a chance whereas others were very helpful.

Of course they couldn't tell me for sure that I'd get in, but they should be able to help you decide

thanks guys this has been helpful, and especially phathead, I read some of your blog yesterday and it gave me perspective, thank you for going at such lengths for the copious amount of information 🙂

I spoke to staff at UH Hilo on the phone a week before the deadline asking if it was worth it for me to apply since it was late in the cycle and I didn't think I was as competitive as I should be.

He said it couldn't hurt and that they were still with empty seats (though they were quickly being filled...they had interviews the same day in fact). I applied because of his encouragement.

No joke, just TWO weeks later I had an interview (not scheduled one, literally had the interview), and about 10 days after that I was offered admission.

The moral of the story is: call call call.

Wow, congratulations! You get to chill in Hawaii, damn I'm jealous 😛 Thank you and I appreciate the advice and your taking the time to post your experience. I really like to read other people's stories. I definitely think I will call next week

Often schools keep records of the average GPAs and PCAT scores for incoming classes and are willing to give them if you ask. Just keep things professional and don't give them your life story and expect a straightfoward answer of how likely you are to be accepted.
