As a Walgreens' floater, is working overnight voluntary-based only or is it required?

im not a walgreens and never want to be. but its definitely voluntary. u can always come up with health concerns or safety concerns (ie. driving home safely) to refuse a shift. however, as a floater, when management choose to layoff a floater, the daytime is the first to go. since they can always easily find someone to work daytime.

It is required. You have no choice unless you tell the dm that you have some sort of medical problem or other issue not to work overnight and the DM is okay with it. Otherwise, for certain areas that have multiple 24 hour stores (8 or 9 in an area), you might average 1 to 2 days of overnight every two weeks depending on coverage availability.

Well, with all the 24 hours store going non-24 you have much less chance of having to worry about this, fortunately.

Walgreens floater here, actually currently working an overnight. They can schedule you for whatever they need covered without asking. I found out I was working this week about 2 weeks beforehand. It sucks. I would recommend asking for a hotel if you ever get scheduled more than 2 days overnight.
