Calling all foreign trained dentists in Canada

As all of us,who are/have been taking the ACFD eligibility exam, are well aware of the dearth of seats for admissions into the qualifying programme..therefore, a few of us dentists from Iran ,India and Pakistan, have been getting together here in Toronto ,to discuss if there are any other alternatives we can come up with to suggest to the governing boards..

We are getting together tomorrow (sorry for the last minute note) at North york central library's to discuss these issues and how we can communicate to ACFD aswell as the CDA to make it easier to bridge the gap...this is going to be the third meeting.. we had the first meeting some 3 weeks ago.

There are some 450 dentists taking the exam each time (thats twice a year approx) from across Canada...and only 75 seats alloted to foreign trained dentists!! So it has been a long awaited dream for a lot of us!!

So, all of u foreign trained dentists in the process of getting a license , are welcome to come and attend this meeting...we will start collecting around 6:00pm on the south side of the North york central library..its very accessible by TTC.once you reach there ,ask anyone to direct you to the Mel Lastman square, its an open area and it should not be difficult for you to locate the group once u are there.

If we can collaborate thru emails or anything with other dentists in similar situations across canada, that should help aswell. So lets all of us try our best,we might get through to some dialogue and perhaps better our situation.

I gather from your post that u are not currently in Canada? you can get all the information on ACFD's website..

u need a visa, to come here and write the exam...also..for getting admission to any canadian dentistry programme u need a permanent residence of canada card..which u get after migrating here only.

Hey there everyone,

The meeting that was held last wednesday turned out very well..there were some 30 dentists who turned up and offered some very good suggestions. We decided to involve some local MP's aswell to get some of their views on this discussion and hopefully the letter should be mailed out soon to ACFD and the rest of the governing bodies.

If any one wants to take a look at the drafted letter so far...pls email me ur ids and i will forward a copy to u all. ([email protected])

There will be another meeting, where we might have some MP present aswell, on the coming Wednesday June 20th.. at 6:30 pm. same place. So if u can spare some time out and come and join in, it'll be great. Remember..all of are in the same boat as long as we dont get a seat in the qualifying programme..and you have nothing to lose by attending... you will get to meet a lot of other dentists aswell. So...if u can, pls mark your calenders for this coming wednesday.

There is another meeting taking place on this wednesday 27th at the same location, same time. any one wishing to attend is welcome to do so. The Dentist who is in charge met up with a local MP here and she will update everyone on the latest. At the last meeting, all of us put our signatures on the finalised letter...(i can email the copy to all who are interested) .

It will be great if international dentists from all over canada can add their signatures aswell....i have had a few dentists from Calgary and Alberta contact us and they are trying to get some signatures aswell.If we have atleast a 100 signatures ...that should be sufficient to get some response from ACFD.

Try kaplan institute, it could help you, alot. get ready for the money drain my friend
