Hey Fellow postbaccs!

I have a few questions to ask about how AMCAS works in terms of entering grades.

1. Just curious to know how AMCAS works in terms of postbacc gpa. Is there a separate section where you put in all your postbacc grades, or is it factored into the undergrad GPA? As far as the postbacc program goes, I have math courses (precalc and calc) sciences (the usual cocktail of requirements for med school), plus one other grade for independent study. I'm wondering where all these grades will go ::confusion::

2. I took some science and mathematics classes in undergrad (to fulfill biological/physical science requirements). Will those count towards my BCPM gpa?

Thanks everyone 🙂

Postbac is undergrad. Your postbac work will be summarized in its own line item against frosh/soph/jr/sr, but the overall and BCPM GPAs include postbac work. It's very straightforward.

Start an AMCAS application to see how it works. Doesn't cost anything, and you don't have to submit.

Courses are classified (by you and verified by AMCAS) by year...there is a separate "year" for post bacc work...then all of the undergrad course work is totalled and summarized for GPA by BCPM, AO, and total...

It all gets counted.

hey musicaldee,
your post-bacc grades are factored into your undergrad grades. add the school into the "schools attended" section. then later under coursework, there should be an option for "post-bacc undergraduate" under the "year in school" section.

your previous classes will be used to calculate your BCPM.

Some post-bacc schools classify themselves as graduate, while others classify themselves as undergrad. Does that matter? Some even grant a master's degree, certainly then it cannot be called undergrad, right?

Yes, it matters.

Grad grades are calculated separately from UG. So for someone with a bad UG GPA, a masters degree is not necessarily the correct path, which seems counter intuitive to many people.

Graduate credit classes do not count towards uGPA. All undergrad credits (whether taken before or after you got your bachelor's) count towards uGPA.

It's pretty confusing for something that seems simple enough in principle. It took me forever to enter all of my coursework (took courses at 5 different universities between 2000-2009.. ugh). You can find all the info online though and you can call them if you get stuck.
