I'm applying to a 3 programs which will require cross country flights. I have an interview at one of them. Is it ok to inquire the status of my application at the other 2 schools? Is it inappropriate to say I will be in such and such an area on such and such a date as well.....??? Any thoughts on this?

Sounds like a reasonable request. Simply inform them that you will be in that part of the country during a specific time, and would appreciate an update on the status of your application, etc.
