Hey guys, I was wondering if any of the non-traditional students could help me real quick. I have a unique situation...I got an AS from a CC and am now at a 4 year. I found that I can take online courses from a different 4 year to fulfill my 30 hours upper division req. So basically I would be taking physics I & II and O chem I & II at my current 4 year, while concurrently taking some upperdivision courses from the other 4 year. They are both in the same state, just different university systems.

The whole reason I am wanting to do this is because I will be able to earn 12 additional upperdivision hours while still finishing my pre-reqs. This will allow me to apply a year earlier which was what I was hoping I could do.

I guess my question is, will it look bad when I apply or will the adcoms understand? Understand the fact that I work full time and had to do what I had to do to get it done.

Any help would certainly be appreciated! Thanks in advance!

I don't understand why they would think it looked bad? Get A's and B's (more A's than B's) and apply a year early. Lots of people take classes at a CC then move on to 4 years.
As far as taking online classes, I have never heard of it being a problem. Ochem and physics is difficult no matter what. Schools also like full time work, etc. Grades and DAt are what really counts though so nail those classes!

i'm somewhat a non-trad student as well..

i was considering taking physics at a cc and asked baylor (texas) admissions staff on their thoughts..
she said adcoms like to see that your science was taken at a university rather than a cc since you will be compared to students who took their coursework at a university.
so i guess it is ok for CC credit, as long as they're not the science prereqs

as for online courses, MY opinion is that it looks worse than a cc credit..
it's probably because it's a new concept and i'm stuck in the ice age
(assuming cc and online credit is an easier A)
BUT if you're getting the online credit as additional work, not the prereqs that looks good i think

hmm so as long as you make the A's, it might work out??

It really all depends on the school(s) you are applying to. I was in a similar situation when I was completing my pre-reqs. I ended up taking courses at two universities and one community college simultaneously. In the end, the whole struggle was worth it--I applied a year early, adcom was impressed with the dedication and amount of units completed in one semester, and I got in. Applying it to your case, if you can handle the work load and pull off good grades I'd recommend it.

Awesome guys! Thanks a lot for the help....I think I am gonna go for it!
