Hey guys i know i have read through many post saying that campbells text is all fair game, but for most of us, it would to time consuming and the ap books would suffice.

I was wondering if not for all the literature in the text, how helpful do you think the chapter questions from the text book would be?? is that reason enough to purchase the book? i certainly don't want to feel a little less prepared because i was to stubborn to spend the extra $150 on this book

thanks to any and all

The test utilizes the 8th edition, which you can get used for $45 on Amazon. You could even get the 7th and probably be fine. But either way, the text isn't necessary, because of time constraints, it's best to use it as a reference alone, or to cover any specific topics you feel are unclear in other more concise review sources.

Thanks kahr!!!! what do you think about thoses reveiw questions at the end of each chapter?? useful?

this is a classical cambells vs ap biology debate..... it really depends on what you are aiming for...

Are you planning to 25+ the bio? If so, get ready to learn the entire campbells. The difference between a perfect 30 and a 20 is like missing 5-6 questions out of the possible 40

If you'll be satisfied with a 19-20 score, then I say Ap Bio with KBB.

Cliffs AP is a great resource, but its unlikely you'll get higher than 20-22 with it.

Not really, there aren't very many, and if you want more you have to purchase this online access ($50). I didn't get the text for that though, I got it for the reasons I mentioned above, I don't recommend getting the text just for review questions. So far all I've used it for is to clarify some conflicts in the AP review books, and some questions that have popped up on this forum; and well, I skimmed the chapter on development/embryology as well as the chapter on the brain which I felt none of the review books cover very well.

Certainly getting the text won't hurt you by any means, you just have to know WHY you're getting it before you do (not many people have the time to read the entire text, and even fewer have the ability to recall all the information it contains). If you feel all you might need is some clarification of a topic here and there, you might not need the text at all, as you can just ask here on the forum, you're practically guaranteed to get a good answer.

you might wanna give the ecology chapters in campbells a quick once over, i had a question on my DAT that I couldnt confidently answer w/ cliffs and barrons alone.

also might wanna take a gander at the animal form and function chapters, not in any huge amount of detail, but just to have been exposed to it.

Good info, thanks.
