Hi everyone. I hope you all are doing well. As the title states... I need help. I've scoured the forums. However my situation is very odd.

To start let me preface this by saying i have two gpas. 3.45 at my first institution. I transferred to a new school and it is more rigorous. At the same time i had family problems and it seeped into my school work. I have a 2.718 currently which i brought up from a 2.1 in just one semester. I currently have 1 F 4 Cs and two Ws. However I've been doing well and i am projecting to end this semester at a 3.1 The thing is that i am taking an extra semester on top of the other two i have left as an all out last ditch effort to repair my grades. I think i will end with a 3.4 at my school (assuming all As) and my sGPA will be horrible.

In terms of stats I also have

1000+ clinical hours as a 911/IFT.
100+ Hours of volunteer work (this number will go up)
500 Hours of research (this will go up. I have research going on at a medical school and one will start up with my biochemistry professor.)

But I am scrambling to make myself competitive for medical school and I am burning out. I know i need to murder the MCAT but to be honest I am not so sure I can. Does anyone have any possible strategies to bounce back? Is a post bacc even feasible with the number of credits I have? I would prefer to stay in NY and any east coast state. Any advice, convos and perspectives are welcome.

Thanks so much.

Can I ask why you didn't take a leave of absence after your family had troubles?

Have you talked with program directors at special master's programs? How about the prehealth advisors at your current institution?

Your situation isn't unique, but it's not ideal. Do you have your GPA trends by year?

Have you also talked with admissions recruiters at schools nearby or on your list? The AAMC Virtual Fair is coming up so you should look into attending (virtually).

Congratulations on the improvement to date.

You will probably need to do a post-bac, but what you need to do now as @LunaOri said is take a deep breath and allow yourself to take the time to excel and do really well. without burnout. Don't take the MCAT until you feel you can do well on it.

It may make more sense for you to not take the additional semester, and to apply for postbac programs instead. Regardless, slow down.

Also with your 911 work, are you interacting with patients in person or are you strictly on the phone?

Hi Friend. Thanks for the reply. I could not because I didn't think about leave and advisors at my school are not good. at my transfer, it is currenty 2.1, 3.4, and i will finish this semester with a 3.5. I aim to absolutely destroy the MCAT. I will for sure take your advice on the admissions fair. What should i ask? I was not sure about SMP because If i do bad, then my chances are out the window for sure

Hi, thank you for the reply. I am going to take a deep breath and take a few gaps to study for the MCAT. My 911 work is as a 911 EMT in NYC (I service and take calls from FDNY/911 system)

Got it. Good. I just wanted to make sure you're interacting with patients. Sounds like excellent clinical experience. Not just on the phone.

You have a great app EC-wise.

Realistically, only a 520 and above MCAT would save you from not doing a postbacc. Achievable, but don't 1000% bank on it. Even then, schools have their pick when it comes to stats. They could very well have loved you but can choose another applicant they loved over you due to them having stats that would not bring down their GPA averages.

You said sGPA was horrible - what are we talking here?

Bottom line: a school wants to be sure you can keep your head above water in the pre-clinical portion of the curriculum If you aren't sure you can manage a SMP, which is a $50,000 bet that you can out-perform the average medical student at the same school, what makes you think you can succeed in medical school?

Do give some consideration to Physician Assistant training. You'll still need to show that you can handle the pre-clinical curriculum but you are half way there with your EMT work which is what brought it to top of mind for me.

Thank you. Im trying to elevate my ECS too. I am taking time off after to get those up and take the MCAT. I am banking on the minium a 514. GPA is like 2.5 but it's going to go up for sure I have 3 semesters left. I am starting to consider an SMP.

I am starting to consider sn SMP because I know I can handle the work load. I just need to graduate first. They require I take an MCAT as well.
