can bodybuilding be an EC?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I suppose Lifetime Fitness is out of the picture for you as well then?

I'm actually a lifetime member as well lol. Gotta love those cougars!

I actually like the fact that there's more girls at LA than guys... More machines and free weights open for me, plus the eye candy.

Oh really? I go to grad school in the med center, so when I'm there, I usually go to Lifetime @ CityCenter. I live in the Woodlands though, so while studying for the MCAT, I go to Lifetime on Louetta and 249.

Which do you frequent?

I served as an intern for a congressman to get a feel for what government was like. I did not work for the campaign. I learned loads and this experience made me want medicine even more. With that being said, would it be inappropriate or risky to include it. I also read and keep up with politics and am moderate with opinions. Would that be a topic to avoid during interviews?

No. Definitely include this in your application.

Lifetime at Legacy... in Dallas..

Ill figure out which one I stick with when I get into med school based on where the other students go... how much are you paying a month?

I actually have never been.

in any case--I hope you got the feedback you were looking for on whether or not to list your body building!

LOL. I pay 60 for the platinum.

and 25 for LA fitness.

I'm putting swimming because it would be by far my best EC

I don't see why you wouldn't put bodybuilding

If you train at 24 hour fitness and live around the Houston or Conroe area, I'll meet you up, brah. I would never lie about my physique lol (I'm not so lil dorky pre-med).

👍 for the best city in the country.

Im in Dallas at an LA Fitness. Ill switch it out if the 24 in Houston is better... provided that I get accepted to UTHSC.

Im definitely not the biggest dude, but not scrawny either.

UTHSC Rec Center is all you need.

Graduating this year but doing my intern year here.

Mirin?

LOL I'm not gonna lie I like watching "GA" but I also find myself pointing out of all the fake stuff that goes on that show.

you mean like sleeping with the interns? Nah thats 100% real..

Or were you referring to General surgeons doing CT/Neuro/transplant surgeries? thats real too brah🙄

Fo-shizzzle

Referring to surgery residents trying to diagnose patients like if they were IM docs. Also when the GS residents just stick to a neurosurgeon the whole time like they were NS residents. GS residents being in the emergency room all the time like if there was no EM docs. etc.......

and all the free time they have for sex, and the bar, and building houses....

judging by that show, theres only 10 doctors for the entire hospital:laugh::laugh::laugh:

I'm not too knowledgeable about surgery residencies, but I believe you do have to go through regular surgery residency and then branch into your specialty via fellowships.

In on this. Anyone know if we'll actually have enough time to lift as med students? I'm stressed out as it is with not being able to go this week until Friday (two exams, two papers still to go).

yes. youre just going to have to give up other things you do in your free time.

It's all about time management. I know dudes who who have a busy day (non-med students), so they wake up at 5:30 AM and hit the gym until 7:00 AM. Like me I hit the gym around 9:30 PM or 10:00 PM.

Im still debating whether to list this as an EC or a hobby now... probably will go with EC.

Also I go around 6PM.. thats when the yoga pant herd comes through..😀😀

If I was reviewing an application and saw "body building" listed as an EC, it would immediately go into the garbage.

You need to review the difference between an EC and a hobby. Lifting for your own enjoyment is pretty obviously the latter, and pretending otherwise is only going to hurt your app.

For real, if you actually compete by all mean put it in there. But that also mean you are most likely riding bikes so....

Yeaaaah...

having prejudicial opinions like this is probably why you'll never be on an adcom.

I do lift for my enjoyment. However, I do plan on competing eventually. It takes upwards of 8-10 years to be seriously considered for natural bodybuilding.

How is it different from any other sport that would normally be listed as an EC?

Ironically, not many will know what that means lol

But I listed it as Bodybuilding/Powerlifting. Almost in the 1000 pound club.

I was going to go off on you, my friend. But I would do the same if I saw someone put cross fit as an EC.

I listed "curling in the squat rack" as my most meaningful activity. That definitely accounted for my acceptances. Don't hate the player. 😎

Molecular bio/biochem.

I just wanted to figure out how to make cell tech in my dorm room. 😳

Hahaha you crack me up, man.

By any chance do you know how to make AAS? jk

Sorry about the goldfish dude. I missed dining hall hours and had to hit my macros.

Now that I read this again I see it looks like I could have been referring to the tasty crackers. I was not.

what a waste of money lol.

I remember a girl that only took isopure because of the zero carbs, but went out and drank every weekend... 🙄

Im on that ON Whey/Dymatize Elite brah.
My stack right now is: Multi vitamin, fish oils, ON whey straw/banana and banana cream, Gaspari super pump max pink lemonade (taking a break from stims), and Scivation Xtend.

I hope they don't come and closed this thread.

I doubt it. 2/10 (my guess) Med students are serious lifters. Hey man, bodybuilding is a selfish sport at times. You have to eat your meals and not share, when friends come over my house they want my chicken. NO That's my food for the week! I lift by myself, sometimes me and my bro might have a workout together, but we got different styles. His more of men's physique dude.

I said training partner... Not eat my food partner. Obviously we wouldn't share supps or food, but I do need spotters on my lifts especially since I push upto 100 DBS on inclines.

what are your numbers on bench/squat/DL?
I don't really train heavy, I have really good monster genetics. DL's I couldn't tell yah. I'm recovering from and injury from my left hand. Basically open hand on point slam into a sofa (I hit the wood part) and messed up my fingers bad, my palm was all bruise and I put one of my fingers and knuckle back in place. I was off from the gym for weeks. I don't bench. Dumbbell presses are better (isolation).
DBP: 80-90lbs
Squat right now 225. I have bad luck 😡 about a year ago I used to squat 295-315 but then when I was mopping (that's right) I messed up my knee and couldn't train legs for months. 👎
