Hi Everyone. I am a pre med student who has been following SDN for a long time now but this is my first post. I especially enjoy reading the anesthesia forum. I have spent a lot of time shadowing an anesthesiologist and cant imagine a better job. So heres my situation. When I was born, I was exposed to Hepatitis B and have been an inactive carrier ever since. I am not planning on making it the theme of my personal statement but I know it will eventually come up. My question is, will this limit my options as far as choosing a specialty is concerned? My doctor has always said that it would not. My concern is that it could possibly be a problem during surgery rotations and later getting insurance coverage. More specifically, could I be an anesthesiologist being an inactive hep B carrier? I am not asking for medical advice, just your opinion of how this will affect and/or limit me in medical school and beyond. I appreciate any of your suggestions or comments. Thanks!
