I'm wondering if I can bring an mp3 player to relax during the breaks? Or is this forbidden since it's possible that you can record formulas and try to listen to them during the breaks?

they can't stop you from studying during breaks. there are people who go through flash cards and notes during breaks.
it is a good idea to relax during breaks rather than doing last minute review.

So you can bring the bags with you during the exam? (just not open it)

I think you can't cheat anyways since they take the sections away one by one... so I dont think it would be a prob🙂

No. You may study whatever you like during the breaks (although I don't recommend it) - but they'll probably have a place for you to leave your bag - extraneous stuff won't be allowed in the exam room - best bet is to leave your stuff in the car - you can use a little fresh air (or a drag if you're a smoker) at breaks, anyway.

in my room, i was allowed to have my bag on against the wall, but i happened to be in the back row, so it was really just right behind me. it was handy during the breaks b/c i could get to my snacks easily. i wish i hadn't been looking over my flashcards meticulously, as kaplan suggested. it just got me more nervous by making me think that i didn't know as much as i did.

Kaplan tells you that before you begin the exam and during breaks you should be drilling flash cards and studying the formula sheet. I think they're full of crap. If you don't allready know it by then, studying flashcards is just going to freak you out and wreck your concentration.

That's not exactly what they tell you.

Their recommendations for the test day aren't to help you learn material you didn't already know -- they are actually recommending things to try and help your concentration.

Reviewing flash-cards in the morning before the start of the test isn't meant as a last minute cramming session -- it's to try and get your brain going, thinking about the material that will be on the PS section (like stretching before a workout).

Between PS and VR they recommend you read a book or magazine to help you chill out and quit thinking about the science stuff. Mostly the goal there is relaxation, but it is also to help you get in the mood for all the critical reading you're about to do for the VR section.

After the writing section, the goal of doing flash-cards isn't to cram, it's again to help you switch modes -- get back to thinking about science.
