Medical Can I drop out of a DO program and switch to an MD program?

If I started school already at a DO program but am still on the waitlist for my dream MD school, am I allowed to drop out of my DO program to take the MD acceptance if I were to get accepted off of the waitlist?

Yes. You might lose part of your tuition, depending upon when you leave the DO school.

This happens to my school all the time..our state MD school poaches from us.

Unfortunately yes. No agreement exists between AMCAS and AACOMAS schools to prevent this.

Yup. One of the students at my school left in the middle of the second year after she was accepted at the nearby MD school. You will essentially have to pay for 5 years of medical school though cause good luck getting your money back after burning the DO school.
