Hey Everyone!

So I've been accepted to a few schools and the date for the security deposit is quickly approaching. I was wondering if any of you knew whether or not I could negotiate with schools to lower the deposit? I'd have to take out yet another credit card just to pay for the deposit which I'd rather not do because I opened up one recently to pay for interviews and everything else.

Thank you

I don't think it would hurt to call the admissions office and ask. You could explain your financial problems and maybe they will extend the deadline or allow you to just pay half now, and the rest later. You will most likely have to pay all of the deposit at some point, but I'm willing to bet most schools would offer some sort of payment option.

I tried to upvote your post but then I realized I wasn't on reddit =/

Thank you!

When you say schools do you mean you want to haggle with just one or more than one school to extend the deadline/lower the amount? If its just the one school that you are thinking of attending then go for it and disregard the next paragraph.

I would highly encourage you to not try to extend the deadlines on multiple schools. The whole point of deposits is that if forces people to make decisions about where to go in December as opposed to late June. As someone who was bitting my nails on a waitlist last summer till mid July you should make your choice now and give up your discarded seat to another applicant.
