Hey guys, the subject basically says it.

I just want to get a feel of how the thing is before I really apply, so can I create an account right now and not worry about it affecting me when I do apply?

Thanks a ton.

As long as you don't submit the AMCAS, medical schools will never have any idea that you have opened it (and I don't think they would care anyways). However, you may not be able to open it up, since this last season's deadline for submission has passed and the new AMCAS is not yet available.

Sounds like a blast.

Edit: Nevermind, I guess you can log on now.

The year before I applied, I opened an AMCAS application just to see how it looked and exactly what I would need to have to fill it out. I never submitted or paid, but it was filled out almost entirely.

I am glad that I did. It made me get my transcripts in order (i have credits from seven different colleges). It also prompted me to start working on my PS because psychologically I had a better focus on the question.

Just for fun. Go ahead and open one. Nobody will know that you did but you. Ha ha.

Yes you can.

I created an account 2 years before I intended to apply because I had the intention of applying to an early decision program in my sophomore year but changed my mind.

Just be sure to NOT SUBMIT ANYTHING and to REMEMBER YOUR USERNAME AND PASSWORD so you can re-access your account later.

I also plan to fill in some information on the AMCAS for fun, but I see the "The AMCAS application year corresponds to the year you would matriculate to medical school. Use the 2012 AMCAS application if you would begin medical school in the fall of 2012." message. If I start filling stuff out and I don't plan on matriculating to medical school in 2012, would I have to refill all my information for the next AMCAS application? thanks

Correct, nothing you enter will be saved for the next year's application. See the AMCAS FAQ for more details.
