Now that I am done with my spring semester with the last of my BCMP classes complete, is my GPA pretty much "safe" for this application cycle?

I am taking one class this summer, but its not BCMP. I know you will have to submit transcripts after each semester of classes (including this summer), but this doesn't necessarily get calculated into my GPA right? So it's not like I am planning on failing everything, but I am just curious how future classes are now considered.

I guess I should specify,

*future classes don't effect my AMCAS verified GPA, right? Do schools re-calculate your GPA for the new classes?

Well what if you have to reapply next year? Or what if you're on some waitlists and you need to send in some updates? I would still try and hard and get a decent GPA, but maybe you can take easy classes for senior year. However, if you get accepted next Autumn, just hit the cruise control.

Until you get that 1st acceptance i dont think its a good idea ever just to cruise control. like the poster above stated what about if you reapply or what if the school you are interested in a lot waitlists you, then you send them your updated transcripts and you have a bunch of Cs...not likely but still point is youre not safe until you get that letter!

Oh I am not talking about cruise control at all...I am too neurotic for that (side note, if I don't get in this year taking a couple years off to get my master's).

I guess I am just looking for some peace of mind. Do med schools recalculate your GPA with every new transcript?

Only the transcript grades submitted to AMCAS prior to certification make up your official application GPA. A few schools ask for fall semester transcripts, which would be sent directly to that school. The vast majority do not ask, but you may voluntarily submit your most recent grades (need not be with a transcript); this is often done via update letter, but only if the news reflects well on you. The only school to see your final official trancript proving you graduated is the school you choose to attend.

I stopped worrying long ago. I try, I just don't worry. 😀😎

I agree with previous the posts, until you have an acceptance in hand I would keep up the diligence. For your post-Amcas grades, each set of good grades will help strengthen you application. During the application process, continued correspondence is always a good thing. The more you can "annoy" an adcom committee the more they discuss you, the more they realize your awesomeness. I think a fresh set of solid grades would be a strong statement. Also, if you're anything like me, you won't settle for coasting.

👍 Agree. Your GPA probably shouldn't cause you emotional angst anymore at this point. Don't let the thing fall to hell in a handbasket as there are big GPA considerations like latin honors and whatnot that come up at the end of your career that don't have much to do with medical school. But at the same time, you've got a huge achievement under your belt, you got through BCPM without tanking your GPA - no easy feat!

So, give yourself a pat on the shoulder, continue doing the best you can (classes only get easier), but don't worry.
