I am a dad(3 kids under 7 with one in the oven) and husband😍 that has to work 2 jobs to keeps the bills paid. I'm returning after a couple years out. I fell in love with dentistry before as an undergrad but drifted between other ideas and eventually went and tested them out as an assistant(podiatry, did nursing school, worked as an intern in retail-but still felt the dental bug eating me).
I had a friend get into DS, I was proud him for not giving after 4 tries! I am back in school but literally have to work a FT and a PT job and that isn't exactly science core friendly.
If I explain it properly during the app process can I get by with PT or 3/4 time course loads and expect a shot? I expect to finish up with a 3.3-3.45 raising my current gpa. If I have to do FT loads and work, I feel like I will hang around 3.0 or even drop. 👎 any advice? thanks a ton.

do what you need to do to keep a high GPA...so absolutely, your situation can work. But don't load up on classes just because "it looks better"...it's to your advantage to protect the high GPA, because once it's on the low side, then that's a very slippery slope.

I had to work at two jobs (1 FT and 1 PT) in order to support my parents for three years after their immigration to the US. At the same time I was taking night classes (part time) at a local community college, than transferred to a four year university (full time) and was able to graduate with highest honors. Even though I spent too many years at a community college, I was able to ace every upper div biology class after transferring and I also did very well on DAT. Applied this year for the first time and got accepted to NOVA, I am now 24.

So, you definitely have a good chance to get in, do well in your science classes, DAT and explain your situation through your personal statement, as it is very compelling.
You don’t have to take full load every semester/quarter to get accepted to dental school!
Good luck to you!😀

thanks dmitriyivanov and anschutz1913. Like you and others this is a huge effort for me and I want to be sure I take the appropriate steps and dance the dance that admissions wants me to take. I have contacted several schools about my question and am waiting for some kind of reply. I know it is a freakishly busy time of year for them. I wanted to get a bit of feed back from peers while I wait for a reply. Congrats dmitri. Nova looks like a good program, best of luck. hope your family is well.
