Can I take the DAT after Orgo 1?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Orgo 2 is just mostly extra reactions and synthesis with some minor concepts, I don't see the class being necessary to do well. However, taking the class helps out a lot, I didn't really study for the section except go through some general reagents

Mine was full of Ochem II. You’ll need to take the class or self study.

Definitely wait for Ochem II. My DAT was full of reactions and concepts from O chem II and I would not have been able to score as high as I did without taking II before it.

Unless you wanna teach yourself everything at home which is a huge time waster.

Definitely doable. I was in the same situation this cycle. I took ochem 1 in the winter and was signed up for the DAT in the summer. I had a solid ochem 1 foundation and then watched all of chads videos over the course of a month, took the DAT and got a 20 OC. Not the most amazing score, but still competitive enough for interviews.

I think you should self study for it. I took ochem my freshman year and my Dat junior year and basically retaught myself everything. Mike’s videos are the bomb.

If I take the DAT after orgo 1, I can apply by late July. Is Orgo 2 needed to get a high Orgo DAT score?

I took the dat without ochem 2 but I did self study. Its very doable IF you have a good foundation in the other subjects since it will take time to learn. I scored the highest of all my scores in ochem. It's very necessary to learn since most of Orgo section will be ochem 2.

I was in the same situation. I used DAT Bootcamp and Mike’s videos taught me everything I needed to know after OChem 1. There’s only a couple extra concepts to learn and really wasn’t difficult thanks to Mike. I got a 21 while I made a 20 in GC.

Give it a shot! I got a 26 on the Ochem section after only having taken Ochem 1. I just cherrypicked the concepts that were listed as testable and did those sections in the Organic Chemistry as a Second Language 2nd semester concepts workbook.
