or do I have to change them to something I read in a post on here (i.e. Courier New, 11, line spacing = 1, letter page size with 0.8" top bottom margins and 0.3" right left margins.) Thanks in advance!

Your personal statement is going to be copied into a text box in your ERAS application. You can write your first draft in size 72 Wingdings if you wanted.

this is more of a guideline to make sure you fit within one page when the folks on the other end print out your app.
