what i'm getting confused is why do people think the draft exists and they'll get drafted?.

I ask because this is yet another thread that talks about getting drafted and it makes no sense to me
I guess all the Iran hype has made a few feel unsafe. Just a guess. Maybe I should buy stock in Crayola?

Lol, the draft only goes up to 25 if it was reinstated with a preference for those who are closer to 20. College used to be a deferment anyway.
Since the average age of matriculation in DO school is around 24, it seems like most beyond 1st year have nothing to worry about for multiple reasons, even in the ridiculous scenario that a draft was reinstated.

With respect to the draft I always thought the maximum draft-able age was 30, but the maximum age for selective service registration was 25. I may be misinformed though. Although I don't think we need to worry about the draft being reinstated unless there was an immediate threat to US soil.

It actually goes up to 35.

I believe, in the late 80s, congress authorized the Selective Service to develop a "special skills" type of registry of people who are up to 54 years of age who may be drafted in the event their special training is needed in a time of war. This includes physicians. The rub is, you don't know if you're on the list.
