@LizzyM
So just to clarify, if I had an acceptance for the entering 2018 class that has orientation week 2 weeks before classes starting (in July) and would really only attend if it was an absolute last resort and was still on the waitlist for a school that begin orientation in August. After attending orientation at the first would it be possible to be pulled from the waitlist at the other school? Would they know or even be able to offer you a spot? I would choose the school I'm waitlisted at in a heart beat so I would like to get some more information on this. I apologize I attended of course in the event it doesn't workout but I would gladly accept the other offer if it came but after coming across this post I'm a bit confused as to whether it is even possible

If these are both allopathic schools the one where you are waitlisted will see that you are accepted at another institution that has already started orientation. Rather than offer you a late spot they will likely remove you from consideration (the no poaching rule) and pick someone else who is still "on the market."

It is probably time to become at peace and learn to love your last resort.

Alas, in the DO world, we've lost students to our local state MD school, so there is a directionality to poaching.

If MD schools can't see which DO school you're attending, is it really poaching? Also I would likely attend a higher ranked DO school over Northstate if I had the choice

No med school in the US would have a problem with your wanting to go elsewhere than CNU.

  1. the illegal practice of trespassing on another's property to hunt or steal game without the landowner'spermission.
  2. any encroachment on another's property, rights, ideas, or the like.

Never once at my school. We have interviewed people who failed out of MD schools...they're DOA here.

Your school seems to interview DOA interviewees all the time. Better screening? It would save both you and the interviewees time....and the interviewee hundreds of dollars in travel money and lost wages.

Is this really true though? I know CNU and its background, but are all ADCOMs across the entire country fully aware?

All the ones who ate on SDN sure are. And Admissions Deans do talk to each other

Ya, just seems like if I was really in a position to accept CNU's offer or have to reapply, I just have a hard time believing all ADCOMs are fully aware of the situation. I just think applicants should even stick with CNU. Because its still super risky to apply after turning down any acceptance.

LUCOM or CNU? Serious question...

Same for my class. We had a seat open up right as orientation was starting. A guy from California was offered the spot off the waitlist and he came across the country on like a 1-2 day notice for it. West coast --> East coast. Getting in to medical school is a dream that many people work so hard for and thus many people are willing to attend last minute whether it's in the middle of orientation, right after or just before.

I agree with prior posts that if you're still on the waitlist at a school and it would be way too late for you to even consider joining those classes for whatever reason, then you need to take yourself off. If your circumstances are not conducive to moving somewhere last minute, take yourself off. You shouldn't complain and whine that it was too short notice.

Eh, works out well sometimes. One of my classmates got pulled off the waitlist after classes had started (I think she started day 2 or 3 of the actual school year); because, we had someone drop in the middle of orientation. She ended up matching into a really good program in her chosen field. Last minute acceptance is better than no acceptance.
