Someone told me that getting a DMD would prevent one to practice in certain region of the states, such as the south. Is this true?? What about DDS?
Thanks! =)

A DMD and a DDS degree are equal degrees. You can practice anywhere in the world with both degrees. Nova SOUTHeastern is a school in the SOUTH that offers the DMD degree...this just goes to show you that you can practice in the south.

Harvard was the first to issue a DMD degree and I think for the most part it has remained this way since due to political reasons.

D.M.D. stands for Doctor of Dental Medicine
D.D.S. stands for Doctor of Dental Surgery

The debate in general had to deal with some Dentists feeling that their degree was more medical while others felt that it was more surgical. I hope this helps!

Hi,
You have been definitely misinformed. DMD is the same as DDS. Only different titles. Consequently you can practice anywhere with the DMD.
