Can you prepare for DAT in 9 months? I had taken classes long time ago.

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Yeah you'll be fine. Most people on here study intensively for a month or two and get 20+ on all sections of the DAT

Of course...how long do you think people take?

I studied for about a month and a half or so and did well. I wouldn't suggest studying that far in advance cause you'll forget things. Just study intensively 2-3 months beforehand.

You will forget stuff if you start studying that early. Just work hard in your biology and ochem classes. If you do well in them and REALLY learn the material, that's half the battle done right there. Those pre-req classes for dental school help out alot with the science parts of the DAT. Then. 2-3 months before the DAT, start hitting the material hard.

9 months !

Bsfree

You better tack on a couple of months to that

2 months max of intensive studying is all that's needed. I studied 6-8 hours a day on my days off from work and then ramped it up to 10-12 hours a day a few weeks before the test.

Thanks for the replies everyone.
I was worried because I basically have no background in g-chem and o-chem, which are what I feel most apprehensive about.

I too was worried because I was out of school for almost 10 years!!! I basically retaught myself using Chad's videos for gen chem and ochem, especially!! and cliffs AP Bio and Feralis notes for bio. I stretched my studying over a 4 month period because of work and other responsibilities that didn't allow me to study everyday or for long blocks of time. These are some of the many great resources recommended to rebuild a solid background...Good Luck!!

It doesn't take more than 2~3 months if you have good background in Biology, which takes the most time memorizing and practicing problems.

It took me 5 months to complete Gchem and Ochem destroyer section due to school/work but I'm sure people can finish them much faster if they study 3~5 hours per day solely on DAT. I have 2 other pre-dental student friends in my school, we all used Chad's Video and DAT destroyer and all 3 of us scored 20+ on chem sections, so I could say they are must have for studying materials. They will help excel in your orgo exam too if your professor is bad at teaching. Most of my difficult orgo exam and lab questions(in school) came from Chad's video or Destroyer.

I think 9 months of studying could be physically and spiritually too much for most students and kinda slack off half way.

But everyone's different, do what works you.
