I am still unsure of where I will be attending and I want to put down deposits at two of the schools that accepted me in case a scholarship comes in. Is this allowed? If so, when would I have to notify the schools and make my final decision?

Thanks.

You can. However, you can only be holding 1 acceptance by a certain date. I believe it's May 1st, but I am not sure.

Some schools have nonrefundable deposits, so you could lose some money in the process. Just double check that for the schools you are talking about.

I sent in two deposits..... eeeeekk... but they are both refundable by March 1st....

In any case It is not a binding contract! as Far as I am aware of

I was just talking to a school about a student holding two spots w/ deposits and was told that the schools can check for that on AADSAS. I'm not sure if they would give you the boot or anything but I think that at least shows that they know your intentions somewhat

How would they know if you've put your deposit down? I've made my initial deposit and it still just says 'offer made'. Or does it change to withdrawn from school or something after you don't send in the deposit?

New for AADSAS 2007:
Admissions "Traffic Rules"
The ADEA House of Delegates recently adopted a
new "traffic rule" related to admission to dental
schools. It goes into effect with the 2007 application
cycle.
Dental schools participating in AADSAS will
report to AADSAS by May 1, the names and
identification numbers of candidates who have
paid a deposit and/or hold a position in their
entering class. After May 5, AADSAS will report
to each institution the names of candidates in
their entering class who are holding accept -
ance(s) at additional institutions. Dental schools
will have the option of rescinding an offer of
admission to candidates who have paid deposits
and are holding positions at multiple institu -
tions. Dental schools with candidates holding
multiple positions on May 1 of the year of admis -
sion will give such candidates a minimum 15-day
notice if they choose to withdraw them from the
entering class. This policy will be evaluated every
two years by the ADEA Section of Dental School
Admissions Officers to assess its impact on appli -
cants and dental schools and provide applicants
a reasonable time-frame to complete their
enrollment process.

After they cashed my deposit, my status changed from "offer made" to "offer accepted."

you can put down as many as you want but you are wasting $$$ if you do...🙄

Its funny that you said the status changed to offer accepted after you gave them the deposit.... My status from NOVA says offer accepted and i haven't even received the packet... so no deposit...wonder if they will forget about the deposit??

Yeah i know but I can hope......

What are you unsure about? How will the extra time help you decide? Just curious.

Haha, I checked my aadsas just after I posted, and mine has changed as well! 🙂

My AADSAS have said "offer accepted" since early december when I first paid my deposit. The dean also told me that students can't hold two spots. Once your status has changed to offer accepted you must request to be released by the school you have previously accepted an offer from before a deposit with another school can be placed. Well, that's what I was told. However, I didn't do any other research on the topic, because I am 100% sure of which school I am attending this Fall.

What if you are holding a spot at one institution, but haven't been rejected from another school that would possibly change your mind? (In my case, I've been accepted to a school I really like but being accepted to this other school would mean I wouldn't have to move, as it's in the city I live in) Can schools still considering you see if you have accepted another offer and therefore no longer consider you?

So I am operating under the assumption that even though I put down a deposit for a school, I am not hurting my chances of being considered elsewhere. Am I about correct in this? I don't care about losing my deposit. I just want to go somewhere warm and sunny.

i don't think you would be hurting your chances. last cycle, i remember students holding spots, getting into where they wanted and then dropping the first one.
