Can you work in 2 hospitals at the same time?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
There is nothing stopping you from working 2 different retail jobs either. It's just company policy to not allow it for some places. Usually there is less restrictions for inpatient because hospitals are not seen as directly competing with each other like retail, even though they somewhat do.

We have several pharmacists who are FT at other Hospitals and PRN at ours.

Pretty sure you can work full time at one hospital and PRN somewhere else. It might not be allowed if both of the hospitals are rival health-systems.

Thanks!, what do you mean by rival health systems? I googled it, but did not help

Thanks for the response everyone. Yea I don't think I have known any one who works at two different retail pharmacies, and even if they do, and try to let the other employer know, they will eventually know!! and probably fire you. It is policy, unfortunately...

He means working for 2 hospitals which are in direct competition with each other (the same reason why chains would have rules against working at a rival chain.) If you could probably work at "in the middle of nowhere" feeder hospital A and big metro hospital B, but it would be frowned on (if not totally against company policy) to work at big metro hospital B & big metro hospital C.

hey guys,
I know retail you cant do two different chains. what about hospitals, can you work at two different hospitals?

Most of my hospital preceptors did. Full time at one, one or two days a week at another. Workaholics. I know one guy that works two full time hospital jobs (both graveyard 7 on/off shifts) plus about 20 hours a week at a retail-ish pharmacy during daylight.

About the working 2 retail chains, what about if you were working at CVS but were doing rotations at walgreens?

I'm pretty sure that would be OK, because you aren't considered an employee of the place you are doing rotations at. At many places, you can't do rotations at a place you are employed at (conflict of interest), so I would be surprised if any place had a problem with an employee doing a rotation at a competitor.
