noting the last thread of this nature turned into a politcal battleground, i thought i'd start a new thread.

in canada, DO's r recognized as full doctors and practice the same way as allopathic docs. but DO schools in canada give u a DO(MP), doctor of osteopathy (manual practice). the focus on OMT is far superior to that of the states. my prf a DO(MP) was telln me he met so many other DOs at a medical conference who were intrigued by the program here in canada.

i dont know really too much about the difference, any reference would be helpful 😀 basically, about canadian DO schools and their practice rights, program length, etc. thnx in adv

From what I understand, their practice rights are limited to manipulation only.

Medic170... that is correct.

Actually it is a Diploma of Osteopathy and not a Doctorat. BIG DIFFERENCE.

YOU DO NOT HAVE THE RIGHT TO PRACTIVE AS A PHYSICIAN. You would fit in under similar category as Physiotherapist.

DO schools in the US are medical schools and concentrating on Osteopathic Philosophy... includes things other then OMT. US trained DOs have full practice right in most of Canada, Accept Saskat.

Do read up on this.. if you are in the program then you should definitely ask the school.
Best of Luck.

And PEI, but then again who would want to live there anyways???

DocBill is 100% correct (there's actually a thread on DO practice rights in other countries if you want to search for it.)

From what I've read, DO schools in Canada are intended for PhDs and MDs to receive training in OMT. Therefore it is not a Doctoral degree.

I hope this adds knowledge to the DO profession in Canada
