Hey guys,

I'm currently a third year undergraduate student in Ontario, and I'm thinking of eventually applying to the States for medical school. I've read that there's only a handful of schools that really take international students, and even less that will take students that never spent time in the States (Penn State, Michigan State, some more?)

My question is how realistic is this possibility? I have yet to take a full year of physics (only did one semester), and would only take the second one in summer school if I had a decent chance of getting into a US med school. My GPA and MCAT are around the averages of matriculation that I've seen around the web. Should I just focus on Canadian med schools and forget about the possibility of America?

Also if I did go to an American medical school, I know I'd have to do my residency there, but then how easy would it be to come back to Canada afterwards?

Well, how about you first start by saying your stats and ECs? Without that this post is useless.

There are a decent amount of USMD schools that take Canadians, some take more than others.

After doing a USMD, you can also apply back to Canada for residency as well, or pursue residency in the US. It is a variable pathway depending on a lot of factors that are beyond the scope of this thread. You can come back to Canada in many cases without issue, but it is very situational dependent.

Its a very realistic possibility to go to the US for medical school. Especially if your stats are good enough around a 3.7+ GPA and a 33+ MCAT.
