today i took UWSA form 1 and i feel like crap. got 56-65% correct.

tomorrow is the day of real deal. don't wanna take the risk..

and i have already extended the period of the exam 3 months ago.

if i cancel the test tomorrow, i should apply for another step1 test and pay the fee again.

right now, i feel like hell..
i should have taken more time on FA, but not just UWorld.. 🙁

i know someone who did that very recently....as hefty as the fines are and as discouraging as it may seem now, she took another month and scored a 223 (from a diagnostic of 180 a few days before her test).

keep ya head up and good luck =)

I'm sure you feel bad now, but try not to. I personally feel way worse after a test when I come out of it knowing I could have aced it had I prepared properly but I was too lazy or studied the wrong stuff. On the flip side, if I study my butt off and just get pounded by a really hard test then I can take it better. In other words, you'll probably have a lot less regret after the test is done if you take it when you feel prepared. Just use this as a motivation to go and study between now and then. (and be grateful, most good motivators end up looking bad on your transcripts later, this one's invisible 🙂 )

It makes sense that you should take a test when you are thoroughly prepared and ready but you are never going to feel 100% confident about Step I. What you have to do is make sure that you have prepared to the point that you can at least figure out the things as they come to you. No diagnostic test is foolproof, thus relying on a perfect score on a diagnostic test will put you far behind in taking this exam.

The best thing that happened for me was that I had a firm deadline to meet when taking Step I (three weeks after I completed second year because I had a paid path fellowship to start). I made sure that I was ready as soon as I knew the date that I was taking Step I. On the day before the test, I simply told myself that this was it and I wasn't turning back. Turns out I didn't need to and did quite well.

Just get yourself to the point that you feel you have prepared yourself thoroughly but don't chase a specific grade on a diagnostic test as if that is "proof" that you will ace Step I. It's not likely to happen for you. You are never going to go into any standardized board exam with the feeling that you are totally ready but you can go into those exam feeling that you have prepared efficiently and thoroughly.

i applied for my eligibility period extension today. i had an exam scheduled for the 30th of December. i cancelled it today. does that mean im charged a fine of $100?

yes i think its 5 days pre cancell

this so sucks. i almost thought youd to pay the fine if you were to reschedule within the next 5 days. didnt think the fine would follow me into my next eligibility period.
alas, thanks!
