Is there any risk with attending a school that is Candidate Status? I read that students that graduate from a school with Candidate status have the same rights as those from accredited schools but is that including taking the licensing test and being able to practice in any state right after graduation?
I'm just wanna make sure bc I've applied to 8 schools, 4 of which are accredited and the others are candidate status. I've received interviews from 5 of them so far and only one of those are accredited, the other accredited schools I haven't heard from yet. If I can only get accepted to the candidate ones, should I be worried?

Hi lovergurl,

As far as I know, I believe only accredited schools are eligible for federal loans. Personally, I think candidate schools are OK. All they need to become accredited at that point is to graduate their first class. I;d say, usually if a program makes it to cand. status, they have what it takes to become accredited.

but i'm only a student, if you want to make sure, I;'d ring em up and ask!
good luck!

AFAIK, no. There really isn't much of a risk involved with attending a candidate school. The Recoverer summed it up nicely; once a school attains candidate status, students who graduate from these schools have the same rights and privileges as those students who graduate from fully accredited institutions, according to the PharmCAS website. The biggest hurdle that I know of is the jump from pre-candidate to candidate status. In my viewpoint, you should be more concerned if you were accepted to a pre-candidate status institution.
