can't decide what to do this summer...

So I'm on 3 waitlists (NYU UMDNJ and Case)... I haven't heard anything from them... I'm trying to decide if I should enroll at Stonybrook to take Biochem and Microbio over the summer as non-matriculated to open up my options for schools when reapplying, or to hold off til I'm sure there is no chance of me getting in for '08. Basically I can't decide if I should start takeing the microbio, possibly get in and end up having wasting a couple of thousand dollars (ok ok I don't believe you truly waste money on education... but I could REALLY use the money elsewhere especially if I were to end up in D school this year).

The problem is if I wait, then I won't be able to show any new grades til December if I reapply, I won't be able to get a full time job I was hoping to find after the summer, and I won't be able to make the commute to stony brook and would end up taking classes at a less reputable college that is more local.

I understand this is a personal decision, and it probably won't make or break my future, but what would you do? I have no idea how much waitlist movement to expect...

H-Alana, I'm having the same issue - to school or not to school? I originally signed up for a class inthe summer but decided to drop - I've had many or the "recommended" classes already. However, I'm still not sure waiting until Fall is a good idea for exactly the reason you've pointed out. MY issue...time... 2 jobs, a family, and summer school falls right at the same time as new AADSAS season is ushered in. after some deep thought here is what I'm planning - wait until May 5th or so to sign up for class in the case that a spot opens due to lack of deposit being made. This way I can show a grade or two and not be put on the back-burner to "see what grades are earned" in DEC.

If you know dentistry is for you than definitly start preparing ASAP for the next cycle. Start taking those extra classes/doing ec's/etc... NOW and don't wait to see if you get off the waitlist.

Most of the waitlist movement occurs between January and May, so if you're still on the waitlist i would plan on preparing for round two. That doesn't mean that you don't have a chance. Technically, you could still get accepted this cycle right up until the first day of classes, which for most schools is Sometime in July or August. But, if you wait until then to start preparing to re-apply, then its basically too late to do much to improve your application.

I am in exactly in the same situation. I am waitlisted at UIC and interviewed with SIUE back in november and they still have not made a decision on my application. This situation is torture. I feel your pain. I cant move forward because I feel like I am a qualified student who should get in this year. I think im going to wait until May 15th or so and then reapply on AADSAS. I applied in early July last year and was in the first group to interview at both local schools so I feel like there is no rush. As for the fall I want to take a upper level science course, Im not sure if I have to sign up for that before I apply to AADSAS. Do you plan on retaking the DAT? I talked to a UIC Advisor and she said i could wait till late July to retake it. I think ill take it in early July or late June. What kind of jobs are you looking for in your year off? Its hard to accept any job because hopefully we we will get admissions next year but I need money. I had an offer as a lab tech at Caterpillar but i turned it down. Ideally I would like to be a dental assistant but that is hard to find. Hopefully none of this matters and all get in this year!

Hey! Hopefully you'll get in. My suggestion is that reapply early this year maybe submit your primary application by the end of May. If you wait for the dental schools and waiting lists its gonna be so risky. You can contact these schools and ask for advice.

moni, I agree w/ you. In fact I've signed up for some classes w/ dropping them in mind if I get an acceptance (of course dropping w/out penalty before the deadline). If I get an acceptance post-drop date, I'll finish out my courses - no big deal, I rather enjoy learning and CERTAINLY don't want W's on my app. My 09 aadsas app is coming together and will be ready to submit immediately...no playing around.
