Hi guys
I have been accepted to U.Conn, Pittsburgh, NYU, Michigan, and UCSF. However I don't know where I should go? I want the opinion of those who are either in dental school now or those who have graduated.
Thank you

Of those schools, UConn, Michigan, and UCSF stand out as the schools with the best reputations. If you are in-state at any of them, I'd definitely go there.

hey, im going to pitt, but id say ucsf. If i get in there, id probably make the move from nys. its well-respected in the health sciences, has great research, and a friend of mine who does some part-time work at ucsf says they have decent clinical.

pick state school if you want to save money. o/w ucsf all the way

Ok UConn is probably the most reputable one due to:
1. having a Harvard-like class size of 35
2. two years of med school (almost no dentistry during that)
3. the highest ratio of students moving into specialties and residencies
oh.. and also the cost is freakishly cheap but Farmington is probably worse than hell

Next you have the good old Michigan which is huge on research publications and academics.

At nyu you have the best city in the world with access to everything and the dental library is the sexiest creature on earth. And...most importantly they have the biggest patient pool of all dental school in the world. Students can actually see patients over time and get paid for it.

The choice is up to you.

"almost no dentistry during first two yrs" -> is that supposed to make it a better "dental" school?

UCSF. SF Quite possibly a better city than NY. All except for its transportation system.

well personally, UCONN was my first choice when i applied....it was UCONN and "dental schools"....i got wait listed = heart broken...but Dr. T (a great man may i add) suggested that i attend the University of Michigan since i hadnt gotten in at UCONN.... id say so far (mind u im still a 1st yr) one of the best descions in my life...

the people here are happy, jovial, and upbeat--

UCONN students seeem really really really unhapppy! (50 cent lives in farmington...thats a huge factor in goin there!!)
UCSF is a great school, amazing weather, great area....but second to MICHIGAN in research...

since michigan is the PIMP of dental research we've got AMAZING PROFESSORS here...great clinicals...

we do not come close to UCONN's board scores...but we graduate as pretty damn good clinicians with a huge name behind us here

everyone on SDN says money is a factor...and it of course is....but if ur not happy where u are...than saving that money isnt worth it...especially cuz the next four years of ur life are pretty much at the DENTAL SCHOOL...

Hi Muz, Dental school is a very long four years, partly accentuated because the days are long, studying and lab work can last from the day and into the night sometimes and summers just weren't what they were in college! So, you are right, those four years can be really enhanced and enjoyed by going to a place that you like and where you feel more valued.

But, the years of paying off the school loans, a $1000/month compared to a $2000/month over thirty years is something no one can comprehend until they get out.

A recent article I read had a Chinese proverb at the beginning. This may not be the exact wording, "If you want to know the road ahead, ask the people who are coming back." A lot of SDN members know that road ahead, we've been up and down that road. So, I don't think we're being pessimistic, we're just trying to let others know that the debt does make a difference, down the road.

Michigan sounds great. If you enjoy your experience and surroundings, it will not only make dental school a fond memory, but it will put you in a great frame of mind when you graduate. You sound like you have made a very thoughtful decision regarding your own dental school education. Knowing this not only gives you confidence in your decision now, but will later as well. Good Luck and Best wishes.
