Can't use touch screen computers in medical school??

someone mentioned to me that touch screen computers aren't allowed w/ some national test? Does anyone have any experience with this?

You're probably talking about NBME exams-- I don't think you're allowed to take those on tablets. But there's no reason you can't use a tablet for whatever else you want to do with it.

Some schools use the NBME shelves for their pre-clinical exams.

We took some of then-- for a comprehensive review course, not individual classes-- and I vaguely remember the tablet rule being an issue for a couple of classmates.

I was thinking it would be the NBME test. So, can I use an attached keyboard or does the software recognize the screen is touch screen compatible and not allow the test to be taken on a touch screen?

What about the Windows book? Its an actual computer, but has a touch screen? I love taking notes w/ my surface on OneNote. Maybe I should call the NMBE people?

Do you just mean ipads or all touch screen computers? because a majority of high end windows machines now have touch screens.

From that pdf (pertinent bit below) it seems like the issue would be with the operating system, not the touchscreen. iOS/mobile OS for iPads, kindles, etc. probably wouldn't support the testing software. But touchscreens per se are not mentioned at all.

All of our NBMEs were done in a computer lab setting. We never used our own computers.

My school forced us to buy a touch screen laptop and we are required to take all tests on it. So we take NBME shelves on touch screens

Every school is different so you need to ask your school what their policy is. For example my school supplies all the laptops for the NBME exams and we are not allowed to use anything of our own nor have it anywhere near us.
