Hey PC, If I am not getting any invites yet, should I hit the panic button and start contacting programs now or shall I wait some more.
Thanks

Don't freak out. Invites will continue for several weeks. Some west coast programs invite all the way into March. My own opinion is that you shouldn't contact programs pushing for info as to your status at this point. That can be off-putting at this stage.

Ya they did ask for extra 50 bugs, but the strange thing was that the email was copied to only around 40 candidates, last year it was copied to 400 applicants.so let us see what happens😍

Rejection from Loma Linda and Texas Heart :scared:

I was curious, if you get a journal article accepted to a major cardiology journal after you have submitted your application, is it worth your while to notify all programs of this acceptance?

What would be the best method of notification, email vs letter?

On my application, I had this article listed as submitted, but obviously it means a lot more that it is now accepted. Any advice would be appreciated? If the ProgCoordinator can comment that would be very helpful. Thanks.

Go ahead and send a very brief e-mail to the programs you'd applied. Simply state that your article has been accepted. Thank them for their attention and attach your current CV. Congrats.

Thanks

Any interviews from MGH? Or have they only sent out rejections so far?

Got 2 gorgeous rejections from OHSU and UPenn. Feel enlightened🙄

IV offers today from George Washington, Colorado, and U. Minnesota. anybody hear any more from u michigan today? has anybody heard anything either way from washu U?

IMG, PGY2 from University program.
Applied for 37 programs,
No interviews or rejects yet.
Sent four LORs.

So, there are few places that people have gotten interview and/or rejection from that I have not heard a word from. Am I out of luck for interviews?

Thanks

spleen, are you a FMG? ive heard that programs first pick out the AMGs they want and only then start sending out invites to FMGs...unless there is a an MFG on the threshold of winning a nobel prize in which case he gets grabbed early. may be program coordinator can shed some light on this? Its a reasonable policy in my opinion, if true..

AMG PGY2 at a university program
Several papers, only 2 in cards
Good LOR
OK USMLE scores.

Who know why some get picked and some don't. I feel like it is a throw of the dice.
Thanks for the imput.

Of the programs that have offered interview invites, can you assume if you haven't heard from a program that you are likely to be rejected?

My assumption is that if programs have offered several interview invites, they are likely to fill up their interview slots making it less likely that one can expect an interview unless you are on the waiting list.

Have to agree with synergy, if programs are giving interviews and you haven't heard its reasonable to assume you're waitlisted or soon to be rejected... either way not the results you were hoping for.

as far as AMG vs FMG there probably is some truth to vtach's comments but honestly as i mentioned earlier majority of us (i'll be humble and include myself in that list) are similar as far as competitiveness... there is small percentage of truly amazing applicants and a handful of really crappy ones.

Its important to realize that there is a good deal of randomness to this process... again 1000 applicants for 4-5 spots. after they weed out w/ whatever parameters they use the interview committee will have probably 200-300 very similar applicants and only 40 interview spots (obviously i'm making up numbers here but you get the gist)... long story short it never hurts to have a bit a good luck on your side... 🙂

I disagree, in talking to people who previously matched and looking at the thread from last year, you are not rejected until you get a formal rejection. Most programs have multiple waves of interview offers and once you get an interview you have an equal chance of matching as other interviewees. Everyone just relax and be patient. Unless you have heard a definite no, then you are still in the running.

I dont beleive that every program you apply send you rejection letter/email if you are not invited. Some program never contact you.Ya relax and see,its not the end of the world.

Moondoc is right. Especially if you've read about programs that have sent out invites and rejections already. If you haven't heard one way or the other from a program that you've already read about, then you're still in the running for now. If you're read on here that they send rejections then you know that they're not the rude, igoring kind.

Stay calm. Have a drink. If you're not on call.

:luck:

Hahaa,Thats cool! PC we appreciate your reply!🙂

Thanks PC - you made my "no new interviews" day.

Per your suggestion, I will have a drink.

0 IVs, 6(Duke,northwestern,MGH,UMichigan,OHSU,UPenn) rejections.
43 programs applied, IMG, few small publications, PGY3, community program, Ok scores and letters

Yet to hear from BWH, Maryland, Texas heart, Baylor, UTSW, loma linda, wisconsin

Thank you PC for your soothing post!

I wonder if there won't be a wave of secondary invitations going out soon. Most of us apply to many more programs than we can interview at, and accept the first dozen interviews to come our way. If someone gets a new invitation, they'll cancel one of the olds, and the program invites someone else (hopefully you), right?

Then again, I wonder if these second choice interviews are really worth going to--you'll probably end up quite low on the rank list if you're a wait list interviewee.

rejection from OHSU👎

What is OHSU? I'm not familiar with this abbreviation

i think they're referring to oregon health sciences, but could also be ohio state i guess, though i don't know if they've sent anything out yet
