Looking for some guidance from current ICs in practice. I've been out of training 3.5 years now. Was asked to join the review board. I have some major concerns. Our prior cath lab director and senior partner was on the board and I'd be taking his old position. He was let go after many issues one of which was weaponizing the review board and making his two junior partners go through Hell. There are three members if I join. The other two are from non hospital private groups with their own joint OBL. One member hasn't performed a case in the hospital since late November (and only 7 cases since June 2024). The other member is in an active lawsuit with my employer. The overseeing governing body is made of a mix of hospital employed and private practice physicians. If my cases go to review and I'm on the board I am obviously removed from the review process. I have dodged requests to join for a few months now. No cases have been reviewed since January as a result. Given my young/early career state and the obvious conflict of interest of the other members I feel joining could be damaging to my career.

How should I handle this? I spoke to the hospital lawyer and he said I should join and would be fine. After three very hard years with my old partner I'm nervous about the implications of what the other two would do or try to do to me through the board. All of my cases are public for review. They are both partners in the OBL and those cases don't come for review. Their exposure is very limited.

Any thoughts? Anyone had a similar situation?
