Any opinions? Which school would best help you land a competitive academic residency? Which school would you attend if you had interests in international health? Which school has the best clinical experience?

Emory.

Now, if your question was best place to ski, I'd say Colorado.

what are you all talking about? case is a lot better for academic medicine considering their research is more comprehensive than emory (remember emory is a brand new school). also, out of those 3 schools, I would almost definitely pick colorado if you're in state. Colorado has some amazing new facilities, it's very well respected, and you can do just as well out of Colorado while saving some jack (assuming you're in state there)

how is emory a brand new school

Just an FYI about Colorado, most of their new medical campus is not finished and probably won't be for the next few years.

all three are great research institutions, although i believe that case of the three has by far the largest NIH research budget. that said, case has a great international health program / office. they do like to point it out during the interview process and it is a reason why many of my classmateswere drawn to the school. about five classmates of mine went to uganda alone for various projects between ms1 and 2. there is an IH office you can talk to if you're interested in IH opportunities

case. emory is dullsville, imo.

case!
for global health, precisely.

The big dog in this trio is obvious....go to Case.

emory...............

better facilities (brand new building), better location, great school. I would def pick emory or case over colorado, but emory wins here overall

brand new building in emory? colorado will have even newer and better facilities in a few years... in a few years lol

emory has an awesome global health program, too... at least through the public health school... my impression from talking to (impartial) professors at my school was that case is kind of a newcomer on the global health scene compared to places like emory, tulane, jhu, and harvard. feel free to go to case though and leave a spot for me at emory. 👍

This is a perspective from a graduating Emory student. I think that Emory and Case has a slight advantage for landing you a competitive academic residency, but remember that if you do well in any of these three schools you will have no problem landing a great residency. So you need to find a school that fits your learning style. I don't know about the other schools, but at Emory there is lots of opportunities to do international health. Lots of my classmates have gone abroad (central america, Africa, east asia, Eastern Europe) during their med school. Also many of the attending that I know work with CDC so they have international trips that they make and you can tag along with them. For example, Dr Walker takes students every summer to the country of Georgia, during the fourth year you can do one month elective either in Mexico or London. Of course you can make up any elective in different countries during your fourth year. The clinical experience at Emory is awesome since you get exposed to all different types of hospital setting (Emory the academic institution, VA hospital, Grady the county hospital, Crawford long community hospital). Working at Grady hospital, a 1000 bed urban county hospital, you can experience like no other. you are your patient's doctor and do everything for your patients and you get such a hands on experience. They don't expect you to just shadow. Emory's strength is its clinical year.

When I was in your shoe, I had a similar choice to make Emory vs Case. I chose Emory because of Grady hospital, location, and just felt more comfortable at Emory. I don't think you can go wrong either of those schools. Good luck!

I'm not sure where y'all are getting your info on Colorado but the educational part of the new campus is 95% complete. There are certain research building that are being completed and will be finished by summer 2008 but all of the schools that were previously at the old campus are starting classes there no later than January 2008. The library is up an running the classroom buildings are up and running, there are 2 hospitals on campus University hospital and The Children's Hospital of Denver.

With regards to research funding according to US News in 2006 Case had 259.4 mill, Colorado 212.4 mill, and Emory 198 mill. Case ranked 21 Emory 23 and Colorado 26.
