I am down to these two SMP/PostBacc programs. I'm an Ohio resident so Cincinnati will ultimately be cheaper for me. For medical school I want to stay in Ohio, as well. Stats: 3.3cGPA/3.0 sGPA with an upward trend and 33 MCAT. I've done a lot of research and have two publications so far, and I have over 1,000 hours of clinical experience.

My question is: given what I said above, which program will help me the most in getting into medical school (and ideally one in Ohio?)

I'm in wait listed at cinci. Why did you apply to case and do you recommend me doing so? It's not an smp but offers some great opportunities due to its affiliations

I heard it was a good program. I applied to all of the post bac options in Ohio because I am trying to stay in state. It couldn't hurt to apply.

What I like about Cinci is a lot of students apply the year of the program and have a high rate of being accepted. It looks like with Case you have to wait until your second year for the bests chance (since they strongly recommend the 2 year program anyway). I guess it depends on how quickly you want to finish.

Based on advice from the med school admissions rep at my UG institution, I'll be taking a second gap year anyways, since they want to see a full year of graduate-level grades from me.

Oh I see. Mind sharing your stats? We can take this to PM if you like

I would go with Cinci's program. Simply put, their program is more recognized nationally and gives you the best chance of gaining an acceptance to medical school. But I think Case has stronger ties in your state, correct? Anyways the bottom line is successful performance in an SMP program will always put you in a better position than a post-bacc.

The Cincinnati program is much more established and is viewed as one of the top SMPs. The program size is a lot smaller, it's a stronger linkage into their own medical school, and the program support is much better than Case's. The Cincinnati program has changed in the last couple of years in that they are moving away from the 1 year direct transition into their medical school, but that isn't an issue for you because you are taking a gap year anyways. So for you, just go to Cincinnati and focus on doing well and then apply with a strong application.

Exactly. Case would be good if you had lower stats and weak extracurriculars so you could build up your app over the course of two years. The "great opportunities" offered at case don't really matter for someone with 1000+ hours clinical experience and extensive research.

Did you apply to toledo OP? That program seems excellent for an Ohio student. Really cheap tuition and high linkage

Ironically, I didn't get into Toledo... *shrugs*

It looks like the program only accepted 10 people to their medical school this year. It seems like cincinatti is the best choice. Have you decided yet?

I'm leaning toward Cincy right now. I really love the environment at Case and all of the "extra" things they have to offer, but right now I just need to get myself into medical school, and from all the advice I've gotten, Cincy seems like the smarter choice.
