i see you have a phd and they are very research heavy...so looks like a good match

I thought the Case/UH program was great; definitely has an up and coming faculty.

Definitely an up-and-coming program, especially if you're interested in basic research. Dan Simon and Mukesh Jain are both very well-funded, well-connected investigators who will see your career through if you're willing to stick with academics. On the clinical side, Jim Fang is one of the most-respected clinical cardiologists in the country (he just authored the NEJM editorial accompanying the STICH trial results), and together they've already raised the quality of training for fellows quite a bit. Their recent classes have included residents from UCSF, UT-Southwestern, Northwestern, etc (which would have been unheard of even 5 years ago). The clinical volume won't compare with that of the Cleveland Clinic, but if basic science and a more traditional academic environment are your thing then it's a terrific choice.
