I've been looking at this program recently.

What does everyone think?

Is it a bit too innovative to be a realistic career pathway? (i.e. a bad investment)

Thought/opinions

I've thought that too, if I were both a dentist and a physician, what would an average day be like, it seems to me you would have to do one, and neglect the other with the way things are set up in our medical world, but maybe I am just too ignorant to know.

It might be beneficial for someone who wants to be an Oral and maxillofacial surgron. I know it is an option to get your MD with your DMD, and this may speed up the process or something...

On another thread, I believe it was Armorshell who showed that it would not facilitate or speed up the process of becoming a OMFS. The program is not designed for that. Rather, it's training a kind of jack of all trades health care practitioner who can fulfill all the health care needs of a rural community.

didnt they use to have these, but they werent really successful?

From what some of the medical / dental students say. This program offers NO ADVANTAGES to becoming OMFS.

So, if you REALLY want that MD degree along with your DDS. Why not get into a normal DDS program, finish in 4 years, and spend 6 more years doing an OMFS residency. This will grant you that MD title

I think this is better than those dual MD/DDS programs cause:
a) the dual program is a NIGHTMARE, you will take 120 credit hours in the first year, THATS EQUIVILANT TO 4 YEARS OF UNDERGRAD lol
b) I just don't see many people working as primary doctors AND dentists in thier same office, its 2 completly different worlds, You might hate your life and end up picking only 1 and in which case, there was never a point in doing the dual program
c) I don't see alot of advatange to it, as matter of fact, You can be an OMFS by doing the normal 4-year dentistry program and then the 6-year residency, and in which case, you finish everything in 10 years and atleast you get to stick to being an oral specialist (kinda sticking to 1 thing)
