Kennedy defended Trump’s pick for the role after pulling the nomination of Janette Nesheiwat, a physician and former Fox News contributor. “We actually have to figure out new approaches to medicine, and that’s the kind of leadership that she’s going to bring to our country,” he said.

Dr. Means, who trained as an otolaryngologist and head and neck surgeon, left surgery behind without finishing her training to practice so-called functional medicine, which focuses on addressing the root causes of disease. She published a diet and self-help book last year titled “Good Energy: The Surprising Connection Between Metabolism and Limitless Health.” Before that, she had been best known for founding Levels, a company that offers subscribers wearable glucose monitors to track their health.

She has focused on the prevalence of chronic diseases in the United States and has taken aim at obesity, diabetes and infertility, problems she has attributed to the use of chemicals and medications and Americans’ sedentary lifestyles.

She is a wellness influencer.

There is not a single word I hate more in the English language than ‘wellness’

ENT wash out?
She “became disillusioned with the medical system” 6 months before the end of her residency… Pretty transparent BS to anybody who’s gone through that process. She was disillusioned by the fact that her PD told her she wasn’t good enough to graduate.

You're all right! They should just be doing the same thing prior administrations have done... which has been working so well 🤣

I think you nailed that one. Though the PD should have said that no later than the end of the PGY-3 year.

Provider and Functional (as in “functional medicine”)

So she's a charlatan? Should fit right in with all the other Trump hires.

The SG position is the definition of "health influencer". She'll be completely fine if she ends up getting it.

Most Americans don't need more meds and procedures. They are constantly being marketed these things.

They need to get EXCITED about eating less and exercising more.

cant wait for all those pro-trump, drain the swamp posters on here to defend this pick as well.

I am a conservative, and this pick doesn’t excuse the fact one bit that the Surgeon General, regardless of how useless the position is, still needs to hold qualifications and credentials like the rest of us. This pick is disrespectful to the office for which it stands and the physician alliance we are a part of and represent.

SG runs the Public Health Service, it's not a "health influencer' role. Maybe start by reading the wikipedia page?

She has no experience seeing patients in the traditional model. When she was practicing (if she ever did?), it would be a cash model.

Is it that surprising considering how he holds RFK in such regard? I’m slightly more right leaning but I have to say trumps first 4 months in office this term are shameful in many ways.

Meh, we’ve had RNs work as the Surgeon General before. I’m more bothered by Hegseth and the damage that that kind of person can do to something that actually matters

it really is a public health position. so, someone who knows something about public health would, you know, be a lot better.....

Yes exactly. Someone more like this…🤦🏻‍♂️

Somebody didn’t want to do a “Transition to Practice” fellowship

Based on this is doesn’t sound like she was asked to leave, rather that she lacked the grit to finish
I think she realized she was totally miserable and decided she was never gonna do ENT. Looking at her life since then, she made the RIGHT choice, criticize all you want.

She's been very successful as an influencer/author and general kook.

The job of SG, and the govt in general, needs communicators. What she seems to be promoting is an antiinflammatory diet and well established healthy lifestyle choices. It will reach and positively influence more people than what's his name, the last SG?

Levine is a professor of pediatrics and psychiatry at the Penn State College of Medicine, and previously served as the Pennsylvania physician general from 2015 to 2017 and as secretary of the Pennsylvania Department of Health from 2017 to 2021.

Levine graduated from Harvard College and the Tulane University School of Medicine, completing a residency in pediatrics and a postdoctoral fellowship in adolescent medicine at the Mount Sinai Medical Center in Manhattan, New York.

After completing her training in pediatrics and psychiatry at New York City's Mount Sinai Hospital, Levine moved from Manhattan to central Pennsylvania in 1993 where she joined the faculty of the Penn State College of Medicine and the staff at Penn State Hershey Medical Center

During her tenure, she created Penn State Hershey Medical Center's Division of Adolescent Medicine and the Penn State Hershey Eating Disorders Program.

[3]

so someone who graduated from Harvard, is dual boarded in pediatrics and psychiatry with fellowship training who was Professor at a renowned medical school, and Penn Physician General

vs.

someone who graduated from Stanford but never completed residency in ENT, is not boarded at all, does alternative medicine focusing on food substance intake, who has decried the current medical system ie surgery for patients for chronic illness.

Vivek Murthy? I think his focus on the negative influence of social media, especially for adolescents, was pretty much on point. Ironic given that these “wellness influencers” on social media probably negatively contribute to some of the foolishness.

Levine needs a lot of therapy. 80% of America is not listening to he/she because of he/she. Is that wrong? Probably. Probably not.

if you think America is not listening to her, it is most likely because the trump admin basically cancels her and encourages their minions to do the same.

interestingly, trump has not gotten his replacement for her yet.

and fwiw, you do know that this replacement, Dr. Brian Christine, posted this ad in 2017?

He only suffers from greed. Not gender dysphoria.

and you are pulling that 80% number from where?

oh yeah, your arse

yet he was more than willing to treat trans people with ED treatment....

with no judgement.

just greed? no judgement. but he is judging now. why the change?

Who is judging?

The guy offered to treat everyone but never mutilated kids or even gave sex changes to adults, for that matter.

He's always endorsed psychiatric care for people with gender dysphoria, as is completely appropriate for all mental disorders.

You seem really confused as usual. And these bizarre articles aren't helping you.

some would argue that one has a mental illness and the other does not

depression is a mental illness.

anxiety is a mental illness

personality disorders are a mental illness

accomplishments and performance are not necessarily linked.

bruce jenner won a gold medal, so what, now kaitlin is not an expert at the decathlon? it doesnt work that way

Bruce Jenner does not tell other people what to do.
A public official does.

Example:

 • Monastery and Catholic School: He spent time as a novice monk at Vat Botum Vaddei monastery before attending the École Miche, a French Catholic primary school, where he learned French.
 • Struggles and Vocational Studies: He was not a particularly gifted student and was held back in primary school. He eventually pursued vocational studies in carpentry.
 • Scholarship to France: He secured a government scholarship to study radio electronics in Paris in 1949.

Do you want this guy to run HUD because he was a carpenter?
Do you want him to run the FCC as he studied radio electronics?

BTW, It is Pol Pot.

probably one of the poorest examples given in the history of studentdoctor

The point is that Kaitlin Jenner would be an excellent decathlon coach b/c she is an expert in the field. she has content expertise. anybody who cares about actual content expertise and knowledge should be able to look past transgenderism.

otherwise..... you are kind of a dinosaur, sorry to say.....

Democrat logic.

A man who has a PhD in Catholicism but personally practices Satanism is not qualified to teach your children at Sunday school.

another bad example
You're really good at criticizing other opinions but seem to have none of your own.

You have expressed being a moderate on this topic in the past.

"Qualifications" aside, were you comfortable with Levine in a senior policy making role, guiding America's healthcare system?

I know you are difficult just to be difficult.
Coach does not equal public official.
Or even a doctor.
If I showed up for work in a t shirt and grey sweats to see patients.......

i dont have opinions? im not opinionated? thats a new one.

i was comfortable with Levine in a senior policy making role. do i like the idea of young men being chemically or surgically neutered? or of young women getting top surgeries? of course not. but thats doctor-patient stuff, not lawmaker stuff

She told NPR in 2022 that "there is no argument among medical professionals [...] about the value and importance of gender-affirming care." Since then some high-profile medical professionals have called for caution in this medical field, including British pediatrician Hilary Cass. Those physicians are often cited by lawmakers seeking to ban this care. Cass was mentioned recently during Supreme Court arguments about whether such bans are constitutional.

Rachel Levine calls state anti-LGBTQ bills disturbing and dangerous to trans youth

"There is still widespread agreement about the medical utility of transgender medicine and transgender medicine for young people," Levine maintains. "There is always ongoing research to study any of our medical protocols, and that would include transgender medicine. We should always have robust discussion and analysis of our treatment protocols, and they need to be based on data."

She says those standards of care should then be applied carefully to individual patients. "That's how we do pediatrics and that's how it should be done," she says.

That is separate from what's happening with the proliferation of anti-trans state laws, she says. "This is really a politically and ideologically motivated effort developed by a think tank in Washington in order to attack the LGBTQI+ community, starting with the trans community," she says. "And unfortunately, it has been very successful."
