The avatars are misleading like the field.

Was pre med and did research on the field and discovered how limited the degree was outside of podiatry. I learned that podiatry was not a regular medical specialty and that the career opportunities very limited even after the terminal degree even with a three year residency the scope of practice is not that of a full body physician. The brochures and recruiters make it seem like another specialty of medicine but according to the AMA they are not. I was really excited at the prospect of research but a DPM degree does not have much value there.

Excuse me, but the expression that I came here "blindly spraying inter-disciplinary flaming" is a bit over the top. My hypocrisy meter must not be plugged in, but you have many posts of experience which by default gives you seniority. I will not post comments such as the OP again.

He thought podiatry was a medical specialty. Outside of medicine it is a common misconception. Ignorance is not the same as stupidity and it was a douchey comment

What are you? An english professor? When i check SDN on my phone i don't analyze every post i make for proper grammar. Do you do that in real life? Probably not. Anyway i called the OP an idiot for thinking podiatry school was medical school. If you want to play jiminy cricket go ahead but i don't sense any "hypocrisy" in my post.

Those who take the MCAT get podiatry literature, and other PR items to help recruit potential applicants.

~70-80% acceptance rates as purported by their schooling literature, and applicants are generally have lower GPAs, MCATs, and lower tier undergrads.

If family member had major foot trauma, who would you want: an MD ortho trauma surg treating your daughter, or a DPM? That's up for debate by some.

Podiatry training school is not medical school as governed by LCME. Yes, podiatry students attend 4 years of training school, they do not take USMLEs, nor can apply for ACGME residencies. The new standard for podiatrists is 3 years post graduate training that is hospital-based. However, one would reasonably surmise that for foot and sometimes ankle surgery, a minimum would be a 1 year surgical internship governed by ACGME tfollowing by 2-3 years of AOFAS regulated residency training to ensure quality and standardization amongst foot and ankle surgeons.

The scope is limited to feet, and in some states, ankles. The scope is not uniform throughtout the states.

Very few have opportunities outside of podiatry, given that the degree, DPM is not recognized or is familiar with many----many folks think that podiatrists attend medical school and are MDs and that podiatry is an ABMS speciality--which is not accurate. Training can be nonconsistent, nor standardized.

Perform major due diligence with a limited scope profession. Dentistry has a business model that can be quite successful and dentistry is integral in health care.

I'm only posting in this thread to say that I have a friend who took the MCAT the same day I did "just for fun" before having taken Physics or Organic II and not having studied one bit for it.

He got a 19M.

Subsequently, he was offered admission into Podiatry School prior to graduating college, and enrolled immediately after his junior year of college. He was "given" a retroactive Bachelor's degree from his Pod school.
 
I look at podiatry the same way as dentistry. You aren't a physician, but you are a medical expert in specific field of medicine. It's fine if you know that field is for you, but if you want to be a physician, don't go into it.

You came in here and called the OP an idiot (well.... technically said something about "his idiot" :laugh: but we can leave your 4th grade grammar alone for now 👍) on the basis, per your earlier post, that he entered a professional school without researching it. However, in reality the OP is a graduate student working on a PhD and this issue arose WHILE he was researching the topic. I underlined the use of that word so you could see the discrepancy between your interpretation and the facts as they truly are.

2) it isnt so much careful analysis as just reading the post for what it legitimately says. In this case: "my a med student" and "my so held up on" :shrug:. Either way, the fact that you can't write proper sentences is secondary to the fact that you did so while questioning the intelligence of someone else for something that isnt actually related to intelligence. I don't really care if your grammar sucks (thats the appropriate use there, btw), I just care that you are being a douche to this guy only for initially being interested in podiatry and for discovering for himself that podiatry is not a medical specialty. Yeah, if there's one thing I've learned during my short stint on SDN, it's to never pick a fight with Specter. Not only do you have zero chance of coming out of it victorious, but you run a very high risk of embarrassing yourself in defeat.

i'm responding to your stupidity on my cell phone so i don't have the patience to check for grammar on every sentence i write. I know 3 languages and unfortunately i don't have the patience to analyze grammar and learn its intricacies, why? I just don't give a crap about grammar. Believe me there are several people on this forum that will feel the same way. Doctors aren't graded on how well they write and most physicians that publish books have editors that fix issues like this. If your going to sit around and knock me for my lack of interest in grammar then go ahead but just FYI there are several people in your medical school class that will feel the same way as i do.

However, I absolutely love that any time one of you kids gets called out like this your first response is to question whether or not I am actually a med student. Sure, have it your way - I am a student in podiatric nurse midwifery 🙄 doesnt change the fact that you are attempting to divert the discussion away simply because you are unable to come up with anything better to say - that in and of itself is the most embarrassing part of all of this.... but I don't actually trust that you have the ability to recognize it 😉

Honestly, how are you not getting this? If you can't ****ing put "cause" and "effect" together in that pathetic brain of yours, I'll help you out here. You'll be standing face to face with me, and let me ****ing tell you, it'll already be too ****ing late to back down at that point. You might decide "well ****, I might as well stay true to my word and throw a ****ing punch". This is where you will go wrong. I hope you don't have a job that requires two ****ing hands, because you're going to be missing one after I'm done with you. I'll casually divert your fist off to the side, as you suddenly realize you may have gotten yourself into something you can't back up. You'll try to regroup and pull your arm back, but that wont be easy when I jab my spear-pointed Benchmade switchblade straight through the bone in your forearm, and proceed to rip your entire ****ing forearm and hand off in one quick pull. At this point, you'll probably spend 2 seconds in shock. I say 2 seconds, because thats the amount of time you'll have before I reverse the knife in my hand, and uppercut it straight through your throat. You'll spend your last few seconds gurgling blood, and wondering where you went wrong. After that, I'll be forced to take care of any witnesses who happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. Nothing a few quick choke slams can't fix, followed by a nice gentle slice across the jugular with the Benchmade.
Now, mother****er, you sure you want to go through with that punch?
