I'm an undergrad at Columbia and they don't allow us to take to transfer credits from community college. I am thinking of taking organic there over the summer just to help self-study to take the MCAT on time (otherwise I won't be taking organic until junior year).

Columbia won't count the credits, but will I have to declare them anywhere on my AMCAS application? Basically, will anybody be able to know I took it at CC over the summer then later took it legit at Columbia?

They will know and you have to report it. Any grade you earn will be on your AMCAS and factored into your GPA.

Yes it will show up and you'll have to report it, not reporting it could get you in lots of trouble. If you are dead set on taking it then maybe you could take it P/F so you are worry free of grades but still get the experience?

Definitely have to report the credits. No question about it.

When would you take the MCAT if you do CC route? I'm assuming you're finishing off with Mowshowitz bio now and will be Snyder or Lambert's orgo class. If so, I wouldn't suggest trying to study for the MCAT and take these classes at the same time.

Most people at Columbia are taking gap years; I don't know if you're against that but I would suggest you think about that option if you haven't had much life experience- it could be a real chance before starting medical school to do something that you always have wanted to do and might not have another chance to do in a long while.

Good luck.. 👍
