I haven't seen a thread with my particular question, so here it goes...

I'm a non-traditional long out of college about to start taking my pre-med pre-reqs. At the moment, I'm signed up for Gen Chem I, Gen Bio I, anatomy, and stats at a local community college.

That said, I'm hoping to gain admittance to a formal post-bac program that will start either this summer or fall. The one that I'm really gunning for (and think I have a fairly good chance of getting accepted to) starts this Fall and requires one college level Elementary Chem class as a pre-req for entry (<--which would be a level below the Gen Chem I course I'm going to take this semester).

I could just switch the General Chem I to the aforementioned Elementary Chem requirement, but I'd rather hedge my bets and take the classes I'm already signed up for at the CC because, well, what if I don't get into any of the formal post-bacs I'm applying for? If I don't, I'll continue on with the informal DIY post-bac that I'm starting now at the CC. If I do, I'll just use that as the pre-req for the post-bac program.

So after that long preamble, my question is this:

If I do get into the post-bac I'm hoping for, I'm fairly certain I'll have to retake those general Bio and Chem classes as per program policy. If that is the case, will I still have to report them on my med school apps and if so, how will they factor into my sGPA? (If anything, I think it would be good [that is if I ace them, which I plan to 😉, because then they'll add a cushion for worse grades down the line... this is not my plan though, and I think I could explain this to a committee if necessary, better than I have here at least . 🙄)

Also, I don't want to chuck Anatomy and Stats out the window b/c those will come in handy a) for knowledge and b) if I change my mind and decide to go to PA school instead. I suppose I'd want to send the transcript from the CC to med schools anyway then, and in that case they'll see the duplicate Chem and Bio classes anyway.

I'm relatively new to this process so I'm sorry if this is common knowledge or something. I've already logged at least 200 hours doing research on all of this stuff, many of it on SDN, and I've yet to come across a question like this yet. I really don't want to shoot myself in the foot for some reason with all this, so if anyone has any tips/tricks/insights/knowledge to drop, I'd appreciate it.

Thanks in advance for bearing with me on my relatively convoluted first post.

Holler!

Happy Holidays,
Goldenbones

You're required to send transcripts from all of the schools that you've attended. You're required to report all your classes and grades received. AMCAS then averages everything, even grades for repeated courses.
