Hi!
I recently been accepted to CCOM and I am very excited! I interviewed there last week and was extremely impressed with everything about the school. I'm looking forward to "meeting" my future classmates on this thread! :)

Congratulations Lari, I too have been recently accepted to CCOM and can not wait for next fall. It is going to be awesome. I have been waiting for this moment for a long time. Now all I have to do is get through the rest of undergraduate work (ahhhhhh!) Anyways, Congrats once again.

Congratulations on your acceptances to CCOM!

It's a school with a friendly, noncompetative, and overall, great atmosphere! If you decide to come here, you are going to love it. I sure do. :D

They just called me on Friday to let me know that I can call and cancel the rest of my interviews.
See you guys there next fall.

CCOM Class of 2008

Congrats to everyone, what day did you guys interview?

Hi Noah,
Where are you going to school at right now? I can't imagine going through this application process while in school! I graduated in June 2002.

Futuredock--congrats on your acceptance! :D

I interviewed on Friday 10/10. What about you guys?

Lari

Hey Lari,

I am currently at UIC, finishing up my senior year. I am so excited about next fall! I interviewed on 10-7-03. I loved it, as I am sure you did to. My brother is an MS-I at CCOM currently, and him and his classmates started a thread before school started, and were able to meet eachother a couple of times before classes even began. I hope we too can get this thread to grow, and get an opportunity to meet the people we will be spending four of the most awesome years of our lives with. Well anyways, Congrats once again, and keep the thread going!

hmph, you guys all got phone calls! I didn't =( . I had to call myself ... boo hoo. haha jk

Well I'm excited about next year's class...so NUgirl, I'll get to ask you to help me out next year hehe

I'm currently working at Boeing as an engineer. I graduated in 2002 from Purdue with a major in MechE...

I interviewed on 10/9/03. They told us we might not hear until the end of October, maybe even November.
Glad they decided not to wait that long.

I graduated from UC Davis (microbiology). Right now I am a teaching assistant for a general bacteriology lecture course (this past year I was a TA for the laboratories). This winter I'll be doing the nasty bacterial diversity lab again. And...as of the 14th, I'm officially an aunt.

Hey-I just wanted to congratulate all of you! CCOM is my first choice and today I received an invitation to interview on 11/12. I'm really excited and maybe I'll be joining you next year!

Sending this back to the top, so people can see it, and so we can keep this thread going!

My VCOM class thread is empty. I guess I was feeling lonely there since no one fromSDN appears to have been accepted to VCOM yet but me. BOO HOO.

Sorry to butt into your class thread, but I wanted to say congrats to all who have been accepted to CCOM.

Let's keep this thread going! BUMP!!

I know alot of you on this thread have been accepted to other schools, and I have not been accepted to CCOM. I just interviewed there on Fri. 11/7, but I was wondering, for those of you with multiple acceptances, why did you decide on CCOM over the other schools. I am leaning towards CCOM, but I am torn right now with the decision of where to go. I am sure this bodes well for my decision making skills as a future physician   . Oh well, just wanted soem insight as to why you chose ccom. Thanks!

Hi scubadiva,
I've been accepted to four schools so far and I chose CCOM. One thing that attracted me to CCOM immediately were the people and the sense of community I felt when I was walking around campus. Everyone seemed very happy to be there and were very kind to me. It reminded me so much of my undergraduate institution and I feel that I could be successful here.

The facilities seem nice to me. They have a nice cafeteria too (if that's important). I plan on living on campus and they have several options, including meal plans. (They have dorms, living/learning center and on-campus apartments--it's nice to have a choice--the trick is getting your first choice).

This isn't too important to me but I know it is for others--there are plenty of opportunities to participate in sports or work out on your own. They look like they have good facilities (at least to me).

And of course, I absolutely love Chicago and the thought of doing rotations in the Chicago area excites me.

They seem to have a good match list--if you got a copy of it at the interview, you'll see that there are big name insitutions on there. It even looks like about 1/2 allopathic and 1/2 osteopathic (not sure if that's bad or not, but I thought that was interesting). They have a preceptorship program during the first two years, so you definitely get clinical exposure during the pre-clinical years.

The only drawbacks I see about CCOM: the bird poop (which is a really LAME drawback, but that shows me that I really like the school), and I'm a little shaky about the quarter system. But medical school is going to be difficult anyway no matter where I go. So I'm sure I'll adjust. I am coming from an institution that has the quarter system, so I am used to the scheduling of classes (changing every 10 weeks). So maybe I'll prefer it anyway. Who knows.

Those are my thoughts....anyone else wants to add?

Lari

Thanks Lari,

I agree with you on the students being happy there. However, most schools will have about 1/2 allo and 1/2 osteo residencies simply because there aren't enough osteo residencies to go around. This is the norm for any osteopathic school.

I must have missed the bird poop. I didn't see any, but I did see these really big birds which resemble a larger sized version of a pigeon?

I'm debating between CCOM, AZCOM, and UHSCOM right now. I am leaning towards CCOM.

Maybe others on here know about this, but there are a few rotations where you really don't get much hands on experience because of students overpopulating the hospital. I know for sure that you HAVE to do most your your rotations here, so if you're not assertive (like me), they recommended going elsewhere for clinical exposure. Does anyone know how true this is? I know this was a fact since I spoke with a CCOM graduate who is now a resident.

I think the bird poop you're all referring to is actually goose poop which come from the resident geese on the campus. Supposedly they're a migratory bird, but from what i've heard the only place they migrate is back and forth across the campus. Just remember to look where you step.

I can feel a lot more "official" now....I mailed my first deposit yesterday. :)

Hey, did you guys get anything else in the first packet besides the congrats letter, matriculation agreement (original/copy), payment coupons, and housing info? I just want to make sure that I'm not missing anything. The matriculation agreement says to "submit all medical information as instructed in the Office of Student Services packet included within the acceptance letter packet." Am I missing this? Or is everyone missing this?

Is anyone who is planning on going to CCOM from a warmer weathered state? Did the cold bitter weather influence your decision at all of going to CCOM? Or has everyone been in this type of weather? I'm not sure whether or not I should be scared of the weather. Everyone is telling me that it's intolerable because I've lived in a warm state my entire life.

Yes....the debate between AZCOM and CCOM is still going on....still don't know where to go  :(

I really wouldn't let the cold bother you too much. At either place you are going to be spending most of your time indoors, so it won't really matter. I just can't say enough how much I like it here, and how excited I am for the opportunities that we will have during our third/fourth years. Best of luck with your decision. If you have any specific questions, I was accepted to both schools and made the decision to come here.

BPlato, just curious, but have you always live in cold weather so that the Chicago weather really isn't an issue for you?

A CCOM grad told me NOT to go there mainly because he said that since I'm from CA that I would be completely miserable just like all of his CA classmates were after the cold really set in for winter.

I'm from Ohio, so it gets cold there, but the winter is not a very long winter. Kristopher is from Cali, so he can probably talk about the weather better.

I have asked Kristopher, and he said he just loves it there right now, especially since he just bought some really great J Crew sweaters on sale.

I would love to ask Kris this question once it really gets freezing cold just to see if it really is tolerable. Then again, maybe Kris is just a tough guy!

I'm only concerned because a New Yorker CCOM graduate of this past year told me he couldn't handle it. And he's from NY, too!!!

I was just about to OFFICIALLY join this thread    !!!

I have been accepted to CCOM!!!! Yeah and woohoowieee!!!

That's right, I said, "woohoowieee!"

I am glad to see that it has been revived again. I am leaning towards CCOM now that I know I have been accepted, but I definitely will have to work on a sales pitch to my family regarding CCOM matriculation. That's a long story I don't want to delve into right now.

Can't wait to see all of you in August (provided I get to got to CCOM)!!! :D

Just thought of something, but do you think this thread would survive and remain at the top if this was in the Pre-osteopathic forum?

bump...once again

It looks more probable as the days get closer to the deposit deadline that I (hopefully) will be joining the CCOM class of 2008!

Hey everyone,
Just wanted to let you know that I sent in my deposit and I am looking forward to meeting all of you next year at CCOM!

Sarah

Bump (one more time :))

I sent in my deposit. I am officially a member of the CCOM class of 2008. Now, I am going to call to verify that everything has been received.

hey there guys...well i too will probably be a member of ccom 2008...i got a phone call about my acceptance and I am still waiting on the letter...that will be a big relief for me. I am currently an at large student here at Midwestern in chicago...and would be more than happy to answer any questions about the school, housing and what not. I live off campus and i have searched high and low in all areas so ask up if you have any ?'s!!!!

tovah

Welcome Scubadiva and Sarah! I'm glad to hear that you are joining our class!

Congratulations, Tovah for your acceptance! And thanks for offering help on off-campus housing options. I plan on living on-campus, but I'm sure others would want to ask you questions!

Lari

Hey everyone.......

I am mainly posting this for scubadiva's benefit, but I'm sure Lari will appreciate it also since she's from CA also......

Well......we've had snow off and on for over a week now and.................It's great!!!! I'm not freaking out over the cold weather, although it will get a lot colder I'm sure. I even drove across the Indiana border to go to the casino last Saturday night. It snowed during much of the drive. So Cathy, if I am doing fine in the cold weather, you will be fine too!

By the way, Merry X-mas/Happy Holidays to all of you. Congrats!

And keep your fingers crossed for the USC Trojans to kick Michigan's butt in the Rose Bowl! ( if we win, then it's co-national championship and two people here will get there heads shaved and painted like the Trojan football helmet. if we lose, well then my head will be very cold during the month of January!!!)

SM-UCLA Tech,
I'm actually looking forward to the snow and all that cold weather over in Chicago. I'm actually from Northern Nevada (near Carson City)....and I get snow at my parent's house. I'm just in CA for school related stuff. The lack of snow/"winter weather" is something I really miss being in California (and of course the mountains!).

I'll keep my fingers crossed for ya! GO Trojans! (Even though I don't follow college football.) ;)

Hey Lari, don't be fooled by SM-UCLA tech ;) . I PRAY that Michigan kicks USC's butt big time! You deserve to have a cold head year round :p :D !

I am excited for next year. I want school to start NOW, but I know I won't be thinking that once school is in full gear.

oh man....you are going to get it Cathy! :p

Be careful when you speak too soon ;) .

I can't wait to see the pictures of you taped up to a wall AND a bald head in the dead of winter :p .

Well my decision has finally been made...and im glad to be joining everyone in the CCOM class of 2008...as i mentioned before, im currently taking classes at midwestern and I would be more than happy to answer any questions about housing, prof's, etc...just drop me a note!!! cant wait to meet everyone...and id also be more than happy to put together/host some Pre-matriculation parties and bbq's...so just let me know!!!

Welcome to the class of 2008 HossierDO!

Thanks for bumping up this thread :D  .

Hey everyone, I'm sure I will get this question answered when I interview in 2 days, but I wonder if one of you could give me an estimate on the cost of tuition+living expenses for CCOM. It sounds like a great school and I am excited to interview, but I can't imagine the cost of living being near as low as it is at DMU (where I have been accepted and loved it). Any info you guys could give me would be great.

I think they estimated the loans (during the presentation at the interview) to be about $55k a year including living expenses.

Good luck! If I could have been accepted to an inexpensive school, I would have gone there.

Loans scare me :scared: .

Loans are great! I've never had so much money in my life. Just think of it as an investment and don't worry about it. it'll come back eventually. unless of course....well, i won't even mention the F word.

CCOM Rocks!
seriously. I haven't had this much fun since preschool. Its way better than undergrad and has even more drama than high school. You finally get to learn something worthwhile. This is what the previous 16 or more years of education have been leading up to.

I'm a first year student at CCOM so any questions are more than welcome. I live off campus. I still find the time for videogames and movies. i don't think about loans. I seem to have become desensitized to the effects of caffeine.

Congrats on your acceptance. Go celebrate!

Hi Casey! Thanks for the welcome. I am TOO excited. I have waited awhile just to be back in school again.

Desensitization to caffeine?! :scared:

NOOOO!!! I already drink 2 cups of dark espresso roast coffee every morning. It's more essential than oxygen to my survival.

It's good to hear that you like it there. I was having trouble deciding on schools, but the more that my decision has been set and the more I hear from other people about CCOM, the better I feel about my choice :D .

Hey Cathy!

Happy New Year.....

Well, it's freezing here now! It's been around 0 with a wind chill around -15! But I'm doing fine. The cold really is no problem. Actually I'm liking it. The snow is great.

I also am excited to tell you that I still have all my hair. But that much can't be said for my two classmates that had it all shaved off !!!!! You should have seen their heads painted like the USC football helmet.

Hi Kris

I was soooo sad when I found out USC won. It would have been great to think that you're walking around in the cold with no hair.

They will get you at one point.

Good to hear that you're managing in the cold. I keep telling myself that I'm tough in the cold.
