CCOM Discussion thread 2007-2008

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
if I wanted to send a LOI to CCOM, where would I send it? I haven't heard back from them after sending in my secondary almost a month ago...

thanks

Hi everyone,
congrats on your acceptances and good luck to those of you still interviewing/waiting!!!! I'm and MS2 and loving it here, except for the loooong dreary winter we are having (i'm from california 🙂).

My roomates and I will be moving out of our 3bdrm/2ba at Yorktown apts in June. There are tons of students living in the building so I thought I would post the link here in case anyone was interested in living off-campus.

I would definitely recommend off-campus. I lived in the dorms last year (redwood hall), and it was pretty convenient. However, the dorm food sucked and after a while I felt trapped on campus because you are there all day long! They also overcharge for cafeteria meals (and the caf closes so early).

If anyone has any questions feel free to ask!! Here is the link:

good luck!! 😉

OK I sent CCOM an email last Thursday asking if they had something in my file.. they asked me the name of my recommenders and I responded. They never replied so I re-emailed on Monday.. and now its Friday, and no reply. What is going on.. do you think they lost my file and wont tell me????

It's true that the squeaky wheel gets the grease, but I keep finding posts like this of yours (I think I remember reading that UIC sent you a second rejection??). It's important not to annoy admissions in this process. I'd let a couple of weeks pass at least and maybe follow up about it then.

LOL yes, UIC did send me a second rejection.. a completely unwarranted one.. I didn't even call them, email them, mail them EVER!! I only annoy CCOM.. I guess I'll just leave it.. I know my fate anyway.. I just wish there was something I could do about it!

I think that part of the problem is that they are so big with the pharmacy, PT, OT, PA, PsyD, etc programs over there that they are overwhelmed with interviews and candidates. I doubt that they lost your file, but I wouldn't bother them again unless it was important.

No you should absolutely call or email and get your answer. I am sure it was just an oversight. I remember feeling the same way about not wanting to make people too mad. I really don't think a couple of emails will upset anyone there.

well you are the second current student to tell me to call, so i did. i called and they told me my file was in the directors office right now so they couldn't go through it.. and the director went home sick today.. and to call back tomorrow.

hrm. wonder what that means?? (the directors office)

Hey TIYL, did you ever call them back? I was hoping to hear that you were getting an invite for this week! If you didn't call, call tomorrow and let them know again that you can make it this week if anyone cancels. When I went, two people did not show (one called that morning I think). From what they told us, I think they interview this week for CCOM then the committee will meet next week again. It's been so long since I interviewed, I don't even remember everything that they said.

I did call.. they had my file in the deans office.. then they let me know they had my loi's.. but what should i tell them.. just call in and say hey, i can come in if anyone cancels.? i wrote that in all my loi's.. and emails.. idk. the lady just said "hopefully" you will be hearing from us in a few weeks.

i'll call again in the morning and ask my status and let them know if anyone cancels.. etc.

did they tell you where you stand on the wait list if you were wait listed, i dont want to sound like a dick, but your gpa is kind of low so i was thinking maybe their hesitating with you comparing other students...who knows maybe your on the top of the list, which is good! whatever happens, good luck...hope they let you in

as far as im aware, i am not on any sort of waitlist.. who knows. and yes, i know my gpa is very low. the one reason i dont hate them forever for.. i know its my problem, not theirs.

i can still dream. and give it everything i possibly have. if i don't.. i'll just think what if.. if i try, like i am, then i'll know it wasn't meant to be - for sure.

for what its worth, i have been on a pre-interview waitlist since september. 🙂 so... dunno. sucks waiting for an interview especially to a school only 25 minutes away.

^^yup, i live 20 mins away.. in Aurora.. where are you at?

Hey my brother went to high school in Aurora! Sorry off topic I know. What is Aurora like? I was up there once but don't really remember it.

Aurora is nice.. its building up like crazy.. so everything i could possibly want is within 5 minutes of my house.. but i dont know much else.. i just moved here 3 weeks ago.. i lived in downtown chicago before this.. and i prefer it here.. because i HATE having to search for parking in front of my own house downtown.. after i get home and have to drive around for 20 minutes only to eventually park in front of the low income housing where my car was broken into before.. pissed me off like no other! haha. i <3 suburbs.

oh yeah. and I called around 7:40am today.. the lady took my name, number, ss# and left a message about me living close and wanting to interview.. etc. 🙂 .. unfortunately she said that if you were going to be offered an interview (without getting a cancelation spot) that the letters had already been sent out.. but she said not to lose hope because they may add in a few more days.. heh.. i think she was just trying to not let me get all depressed on the phone!

Aurora is not so bad anymore. They have been really building it up and improving even the downtown area. (unfortunately can't get rid of the casino though)

North Aurora has even become an expensive area to live in with really nice houses.

I always wondered what it was like there. My brother graduated I think in 2003 so he hasn't been there in a while. I just didn't know if there was a lot of stuff to do around there or not. I don't know if he was allowed to have a car there or not. The only thing I know re: Aurora is Wayne's World. 😉

oh...that's nice ..i have't been in that part of town since i was 15 or so and it was a dump back then

I think all march interviewers find out first week of April, so that should be sometime next week.
Anyone have clues on how many people were interviewed in march? My interview day (march 4th) had all 10 people show up (I think 10 is the max for any particular day).
I really hope I get in here, going to Chicago to med school has always been my #1 choice.

It still has many areas where nobody speaks english, but it is improving.

Just FYI for those waiting, the adcom meets tomorrow....

Good luck!

And yeah, parts of Aurora are still a hole. The downtown and immediately surrounding areas are still kinda an eyesore. Growing like a weed though - now Oswego, Aurora, Naperville, Plainfield, Joliet, and Bolingbrook all bleed into one another.

Ok, so if they met Thursday, and I haven't heard anything yet, should I expect a rejection letter?

I just thought that they called their acceptances, and I just want to be in the right frame of mind when I get the letter.

My interview invite letter took a couple days to get from chicago to michigan, so I'm going to wait til wednesday to see whats going on. If I get really nervous tomorrow I might just call and see whats up. Not sure if they still call people when they are accepted...

Sometimes they call and sometimes they do not. The letters probably have not been sent yet. If they met Thursday-The dean still has to approve the accepted students and then the letters are typed and sent...So do not start worrying yet. Good Luck!!!!

Hey, I emailed them today, and this is the response I got:

We are waiting for the Dean to sign off on the paperwork. Letters should be going out shortly.

Best of luck to you.

So hopefully they are sent out tomorrow or Wednesday.

I am really nervous. Are they signing an acceptance or rejection :scared:

HOD, if you are reading this..I will get back to your PM asap. In an SMP now, so just studying my a** off!

I just called and got the same info as the poster above.
As far as I know the dean signs off on admissions, but they wait to release any info admitted/waitlisted/rejected, until the dean has seen everything.
So hang in there guys!

You can always check up on your interact now account and see if it has been changed to a matriculation agreement. This wouldn't happen before letters are signed off, but depending on where you're located you might see a change in this before you actually receive your letter

good luck:luck:

The matriculation agreements were posted this morning.Good luck.

where do you find the matriculation agreement in the interact now page? Is it it a tab/link? Does it pop up? Is it blatantly obvious?

my entire interact now page kind of changed and the application status check turned into accepted student. they may not be done updating everything.

It should be obvious.

The entire interact now page changes with a message of congratulations that you've been accepted popping up when you first log in.

...Looks like I've got some deciding to do. Good luck to all others still in the process.

I was offered an interview today for tomorrow morning! 😱 However, I turned it down, and hopefully it went to one of you all that are still waiting! :luck:

i know.. i am depressed even just having opened this page now.. i just sent them new activity updates yesterday.. blah. Ive sent them so much mail its not possible they DONT know I want to go there..

Two quick questions:

1) CCOM's match list for 2007 was generally really impressive (particularly all those allo programs). One thing I noticed, though, is that between 30-35 or so were either "Traditional Rotating" or "Transitional Year." That seems like a pretty big deal, considering the class is only 160...it's like 20% of the class! Do any current students have any input on this?

2) I've heard from different people indirectly that there's a swimming pool on campus...there's no mention of it in on the website, however--is there one?

The class size is a little bigger now, but I am really not sure of the transitional year vs traditional year stat? Sorry. There used to be a pool, they just demolished the building it is in. We do have a gym now, but no pool.

Anyone in here currently in the MBS program or will be in the fall? If you are currently in the MBS did you get into med school this go around? Did you apply during your first year, or did you wait until the 2nd year to apply? I did not know if it looked ok to apply to med school before finishing the program. I have been accepted and paid the deposit. I have never done research before, so I'm kind of nervous about that aspect. Could you please PM me if you are currently in the program. Thanks!

Did you apply to the program at AZCOM? They have a one year now.

Nope. The only reason I applied to CCOM was because I got an email saying they would transfer my application for FREE! I applied to the postbac program at UNT in Ft.Worth, so I'm just waiting to hear back from them. As of right now I'm going to Downers Grove next year unless I get accepted at the two med schools I interviewed at.

I see. Would you go to UNT over CCOM though? If you get in here maybe I can meet up with you and some of the other postbac/TCOMers before my husband and I move out.
